just want to ask my risk for HIV. I'm 18 years old gay and had an unprotected oral sex with a guy of unknown status (first time to experience sexual encounter). He's older than me and first time to met him in a salon. I sucked his penis for about 10 mins. reaching my throat and he ejaculated in my mouth and I swallowed his semen. Do not know if I had cuts or sore in my mouth during that oral sex. I've read that it is risky on the part of the sucker. Do I need to get PEP or testing? Now I have mouth sore / ulcer and cough head aches also. Please advise me.... sorry for my bad english I'm from the middle east.

While it's possible to get HIV from giving oral sex, the risk of contracting other infections (such as HPV and/or herpes) are much greater this way. For this reason, it's always advisable that sexually active people like yourself include regular testing for sexually transmitted infections as part of their lifestyle. Good luck.

actually I'm net really sexually active. It's just my first time to do it. I did it out of curiosity but unfortunately unprotected because I thought oral sex is safe sex with regards to HIV. Because some other say it is safe. What do you think is a chance to get HIV for one instance of oral sex. I think I will never do it again. Is 6 weeks enough to get a test? or do I really need to wait for 3 months?

You can get tested now and again later if it makes you feel safer. But the safest thing is to not put yourself at risk my friend . But test if you want.

But do you think I have a high risk? Because some other forums advised me not to take test because they said oral sex is a low risk. even Dr. Richard Cordova said not to think about it because my risk is extremely low. I'm just weighing my decision if I'm gonna test or not. As of now I'm still afraid of testing and planning to delay it because it's hard to test here in the middle east. There's a possibility that if you test positive they will force you to be deported. I'm afraid of that.

If you were told you were at low risk and you don't plan on being tested then I guess it really doesn't matter one way or the other. But I strongly suggest you use more wisdom in your choices of behavior.

What do you mean? I really need to test? Personally I want to test because it will give me peace of mind, but my only problem is I'm here in saudi arabia. they have a strict law here against homosexals. I'm afraid that I be put to jail if ever they found out that I had oral sex with a man. Also it's hard here to get anonimous testing because you need to present your ID here. That is why I'm asking if my decision is correct if I delay my testing and do it in other country when I have my vacation.

Dr. Cordova is right, the risk of contracting HIV via oral sex is very very low. Forget about it. But, if you plan on remaining sexually active, then it is advisable that you include regular checkups not just for HIV but for other STIs in general as part of your routine.

I hope I can move on now without worrying about that incident. It makes me feel week thinking I have HIV. But with your comments, It somehow lessen my worries a little bit. I still want to test but will wait for my vacation. I want to do it in other country not here in Saudi because they have different setting here. I heard that those people diagnosed with HIV here where put in a secluded hospital. that's why some people here are not aware they have HIV because they are not going to test. I hope my decision is correct not to test for now. Maybe after 9 months during my vacation to other country.
