7 weeks - Home Access
      #26270 - 01/03/02 10:25 AM

I tested (-) with Home Access kit at 7 weeks. I have read that they still use first generation testing kits that pick up antibodies later then the newest EIA's - it did not make me happy. Could anyone comments on this? I tried to find a place to get the PCR test done, but they need a doctor's referral to do it. I figured that my family doctor is definetely not the place where I would go crying that I had a potential HIV exposure, had no obvious ARS symptoms, and want to get tested. Any way around a referral?

But I doubt you need it....7 weeks and no ARS...looks like you're okay...what was your exposure?

Shane, thanx.

Exposure was to a sex worker vagina. The condom slipped from my thing that I should have kept in my pants for my wife only. Now I regret dearly that I hadn't.

Been there... new

I know how you feel...been there done that. The risk from contracting HIV from
being the insertive partner in heterosexual sex, is low. The sex worker part, of course
scares us, but realistically, if she had you wear a condom chances are she too is
concerned about her health.

The PCR DNA test is a very good test and very sensitive after 4 weeks...I just saw
my internal medicine MD today and asked him about the PCR. He works for a
major university hospital, and assured me that a PCR DNA test is as good as they
get.

With no symptoms and your risk, I think a PCR would be for your peace of mind,
not that it's necessary. I would however get tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, hep b,c and
syphilis, as the first three you can have and not have any symptoms.

Peace...
Shane

Shane, thanks for the support again. I did test for STD's earlier - came back negative. I am on my 9 week test routine...

Peace and God bless us all
