False negatives - strains
      #261689 - 03/08/12 06:57 AM

Hi
I've posted on here a few times before but, thinks are getting worse so I thought I'd post again.
To summarise briefly, 5 1/2 years ago I had drunken sex with an African sex worker in continental Europe. I can't remember enough to know if it was protected or not. Anyway, I got really ill 4 weeks later with flu symptoms (even though I'd been vaccinated against flu that year). I tested at 7 weeks with a duo and was neg. again negative at 12 weeks. However, symptoms started a few years after this. I had stomach and bowel problems start, then I began getting gum sores and my gums have receeded significantly. Then after 3 years or so I started to get seborrhoic dermatitis on my scalp and face. This has gone progressivly worse and has spread to my arms, chest and back. Over them years I've tested 13 times with a mixture of duo's and rapid tests, plus a Taqscreen MPX test. All negative. However, my wife and both my kids are getting similar symptoms. My son had a blood exposure from me a couple of years ago after he grabbed my bleeding arm and ended up with a smear of blood right over a large several day old graze. My daughter's only exposures can only be theoretical (sharing toothbrush and possibly my wife's razor). I'm getting really quite worried for my whole family that we have some new or diverse strain that isn't detected by the tests I've had. More recently I had a cd4/cd8 ratio done that was fairly normal at around 3.5 ish. Is this who scenario possible? I'm concerned for the health of my family.

Cheers for the reply but, I'm not nuts. The symptoms we're experiencing arn't in my head. They are real and visible. If it isn't HIV then fair enough but, there's certainly something going on that is causing symptoms in my family and me that are common in HIV. I've got my full cd4 cd8 details now but, as I said they're pretty normal. CD4 822 (57.5%) and CD8 245 (17.1%) ratio = 3.36. I guess actually on the high side for someone with and even without HIV.

Dude - you have tested way more than enough to prove you don't have HIV. Sorry for your health issues, but to continue to focus on something you don't have just doesn't help.

Putting it another way...you don't belong here.

The thing is mate. It's the nature of all our symptoms that began after this exposure I had that has me convinced that it can only be HIV. I've got seb derm, agressive periodontal disease, bowel problems and peripheral neuropathy. My wife has the same but, much milder but, my daughter has developed quite bad seb derm too and my son has quite severe foliculitis. It's all to coincidental and I can't find anything else to explain this. It must be HIV but, not detectable on the tests I've had.
