Back in October I had unprotected oral sex with someone I've known for several years. It was my first sexual encounter in over a year. About a week after, I developed flu-like symptoms as well as a swollen tonsil with a sore throat. After a week or so, those complications cleared up, but the visual aspects remained. I don't experience pain, but everything looks as bad. I tested positive for strep and went through two different antibiotics, but to no avail.
I'd read early HIV symptoms can sometimes start as strep-like symptoms that won't go away due to a dying immune system. I've also read the time in which I started to see symptoms is far too early for HIV. However, I'm still worried at the concept. I'd really appreciate some feedback.
Thanks.

strep isnt always easy to get rid of....you were tested for strep and it showed you have it. thats your throat problem
having said that, it shouldnt take fear to motivate someone to make a healthy choice like a STD panel & an HIV test. Include it in your regular checkups for overall good health habits, if you are sexually active.

First of all oral sex is a theoretical risk, but the experts will tell you that you have about as much chance of winning the powerball. The mouth and saliva they claim is not an inviting environment for HIV.
Second of all what you read is correct. Way more than likely according also to the experts ARS would not start as early as a week after a possible exposure.
Go get tested to put your mind at ease, and then come back here and tell me I was right about you not getting HIV from oral sex.
