HIV PCR tests are the most accurate testing methods because they actually detect the presence of HIV RNA, and are not reliant upon the presence of antibodies. They are more expensive and take longer, so they are used to confirm positive ELISA tests to rule out false positives, or to do early HIV detection, before the four-week post exposure mark. Supposedly, they can detect the presence of HIV RNA in as few as seven days after infection. My source is from the King County Public Health Dpt.: http://www.kingcounty.gov/healthservices/health/communicable/hiv/publications/infograms/RNAtesting.aspx
Good luck, I hope it turns out ok!
