Anxiety about first time
      #259219 - 11/29/11 03:19 AM

I was planning my first time with a guy tonight after meeting him at a party. We went back to his place and he swore he was HIV negative because I was very scared about it.

I gave him oral sex for a few minutes and then he pulled me onto the bed and climbed on me and started forcing himself into me when I wasn't ready. He jabbed me a few times before I could wrestle him off and insist that he put on a condom. He did but the moment we tried again it hurt so bad I freaked out and ran.

That was a few hours ago and I'm a wreck. I didn't want him to go inside me like that without a condom. Now I'm terrified that I got HIV from what he did. Am I really in trouble here?

Edit: I just talked to him on the phone and he said again that he was negative and that I didn't have anything to worry about. Still, can you really trust a guy that would force himself on you?

From your description of events, I wouldn't be concerned so much with HIV as other STDs. HIV needs certain circumstances to be effective at infecting, what you described wouldn't fit. Herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis, etc would have much better chances. Not saying that they have excellent chances, in fact if this is your only sexual encounter you have had then your chances are way in your favor of not having anything.

I would wait two weeks, don't read anything on the internet, or elsewhere, and if you are still feeling scared, go for an STD panel. Wait 6 weeks from date of exposure for HIV test. It is the only way to know for sure. Guessing will only cause you anxiety and make the magical symptoms appear that aren't really there.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate the way you took the time to explain it all to me. It was good to read after running into someone today promoting World AIDS Day who told me 1 of every 5 gay men in the US has HIV and I should go for PEP after last night. Guess you don't need the internet to freak out.
