Tips on how to get ARS help on this board
      #25874 - 12/21/01 05:39 PM

You shouldnt try to diagnose HIV from your symptoms. If you had a possible exposure, just go get tested at the proper window intervals. If you must look at symptoms, here are some tips on how to post your message on this board:

1.) First describe exactly what your exposure was, so we can assess the risk. Some folks on this board need to hear as many gory details as possible, since it also serves to provided cheap sexual thrills. Be sure to include whether the exposure was with a person of unknown status, or known to be HIV positive.

2.) Describe the timing of your symptoms relative to the exposure, and the duration of the symptoms. For example, you can tell us how the ARS popped up 20 minutes after the exposure, then went away the next day. Or how it gradually started kicking in at 2 months after the exposure, lasting an additional 7 months. We like these kinds of posts, so we can research unusual cases of ARS.

3.) Indicate all of your symptoms that you think might be ARS. This is good for weeding out symptoms that have nothing to do with HIV. Like when someone has a bruise on their thigh, or the classic "runny nose".

4.) Throw in something amusing about your life, to make the story more interesting. Describe how you learned your lesson, and you'll never have unprotected sex again. Maybe even add a reference to new-found religion.

5.) Be sure to help others on this board by answering their questions too. It will help you brush up on the finer details of HIV.
