If you have swollen lymph nodes it means something is wrong. Dr. Young from this site has confirmed that stress and anxietty cannot cause this. If the nodes are in one location then it is most likely NOT hiv....but if they are swollen in multiple locations and are painfull then HIV is most likely the cause of this, especially if you have had a low or high risk exporsure and myriad of other symptoms. These are just the facts, sure your mind can cause some symptoms, but not everything.

Lymphs can swell for lots of reasons other than HIV. Basically any infection can affect them. Stress is probably not going to cause them to swell, but people who are worried about HIV might feel their nodes over and over which can cause them to swell. People aren't good at diagnosing their own symptoms, and lymph nodes are no exception.

I wanna tell something funny ... I was worriying about swollen lymph nodes and I was checking my glands.. I found one and I paniced.. later I showed it to my friend (he's a doc) and he said there's no lymph gland there..that was only a muscle.. don't diagnose yourself and go to a doc..

This is what I thought too...I never touched mine until they started to hurt, now the nodes on my head are REALLY painfull and giving me terrible headaches, I have read in the forum that this is common 2-3 months after infection. I really can't handle this any more. I know how I feel and I've had all the symptoms, stress couldn't cause what I had, the only thing I have going for me now is that the rash I got was on my penis not my trunk, wow am I ever holding on to a small edge...every one on this board tells me I'm negative but there is no way...my symptoms, timing and exposure to a positive person has proven this to me. Sorry for venting but I have no other outlet.

Yes it means you live in a highly polluted area, or you smoke too much, or the air where you live is dry, etc, etc, etc. Didn't a doctor tell you that your throat is just red and not even swollen? A red throat is not a sign of HIV.
Get some hard candy or some throat lougnzes. RELAXXXX

I am a surgeon. I get asked to evaluate and biopsy swollen lymph nodes all the time. HIV is not the first thing you think of. There are many other causes of enlarged lymph nodes. Some are serious such as cancer. Some are not such as mono, cat scratch disease and a whole host of other harmless infections. Many times we are unable to identify the cause of enlarged lymph nodes despite a long and expensive evaluation. If you have been exposed to HIV don't diagnose yourself. Go get tested
