Hi all,
With so many misconceptions on what ARS is, when it occurs, etc... I thought it would be helpful if anyone who actually did have ARS and IS HIV+ could post what they experienced and when! If so, I think it would help people understand ARS and ease a lot of unfound worries as well!
So if you had ARS and are HIV+ (confirmed thru test) then could you pppppllllleeeeeeaaasssse share with us: (1) what your ARS consisted of and (2) when it occured.
Thanks mucho

And I would lay $5,000 that you did NOT actually have ARS ...... that would mean you have HIV, my friend.

There is no such thing as a specific "ARS rash"; for instance, a certain type of rash can be associated to many different infections, allergies, etc. The type of rash associated with ARS is usually described as maculopapular (lesions that are small, colored, flat, and raised), is painless, doesn't itch, and is located on the trunk of the body (sometimes the face as well). One study found the average length of ARS symptoms to be about 22 days.

My ARS was like the flu. I had a high fever, aches and pain, wanted to sleep, weak as a kitten. Matter of fact I thought it was the flu. I felt totally wiped out. If I remember correctly I was feeling pretty much 100% again in about 6-7 days. I had no rash. I don't remember my lymph nodes swelling, but then again I wasn't checking them.

Good question .... I used to wonder why these HIV doctors I would talk to also seemed to "know" that someone was negative just by hearing all of these crazy symptoms and their stories. My take on it is this: when you have a real fever - it's a frickin' FEVER, man .... you don't come to a site and ask people what they had - you're sick! Same with the night sweats and all this other crap. People who have had high risks (unprotected receptive anal intercourse with an HIV+ person, or sharing infected needles) and experience a radical flu should be VERY concerned that it may be ARS, but for the rest of us who are experiencing indirect guilt attacks over a miniscule exposure, AND then having every ARS symptom in the book ....... well, I guess I now understand these doctors whom I've spoken with on several occasions. I've seen it too many times on this site ..... EVERY damn symptom in the book! This site was my home base for months ...... I was on here constantly and was convinced I was positive, even when the doctors told me I wasn't! And, I had unprotected insertive anal intercourse with someone who was HIV+. It was a brief, one time encounter .... and basically, the experts told me it was a very LOW risk .... those were just the facts! It's cool that people are learning lessons and grateful that they're negative and making life changes ..... but hardly ANYONE on here is ever lucky when they test negative ..... they didn't have a high risk to begin with ..... again, just the facts! So, that's how I know, my friend. When you start wigging out and have every symptom in the book and come here every day to find out other people's symptoms, it is MUCH more of a mental thing at that point. Trust me, you will be negative - just trust me. Best of luck. jocko

My experience was much like Jackie's: Very high fever (so high my wife took me to the hospital), extreme tiredness. After a week, was totally back to normal. Less than a month later, found I was hiv+.

If he is HIV+, I totally agree with you .... however, I stand by my bet. I honestly think this guy is saying ARS becuase he thinks he's infected, not because he is. I've been around here for a while - you can tell the worried wells!
