I'm a gay male. I had sexual intercourse with anonymous guy. I was the insertive (top) and my condom broke. I only noticed it after sometime and it was completely ripped and on the bottom of the penis. I didn't see any blood when I pulled out. I saw something red but it didn't look like blood, more like feces. I asked him of his HIV status and he told me he was negative. I really got freaked out when the condom broke. I started pep after 43 hours. I don't know if I really needed pep for this exposure and what are the risks. I only been on pep for 1 day and I really don't want to continue. I'm not big on medecine and I try to avoid it as much as I can unless it's an an emergency. What do you think? Thanks!

Being you can't be certain of his status...sorry "I'm negative" isn't a guarantee by any stretch of the imagination...you should ask yourself this:
Is my dislike of taking meds worth the risk of having HIV?
There is your answer.
On a side note: My personal opinion on this is deal with the meds. It's a small price to pay for the misfortune of the condom breaking. I think I can say this with a certain amount of confidence that anyone who is HIV+ would gladly be in your shoes for the opportunity to maybe not contract it if it meant just taking a pill for a month.
Buck up buckaroo.
PS I would consider this an emergency as well.

Take the medicine and be grateful. Any of us would trade places with you in an instant. Find out how to take care of yourself so that the side-affects of the PEP are as low as possible and get through it.

yeah, although insertive is less of a risk than receptive, it's better to be safe than sorry. you should continue the PEP for as long as you can.

I will agree with the previous posters here. I will trade you places. Continue with the meds for your sake and then get tested after the window frame, I'm not sure what it is. Wishing you the best of luck

the window period for testing after PEP is three months after you finish your PEP course, not after the exposure. some even recommend six months.
