All,
Was curious if the following picture looks like thrush. The white coating is tough to brush away and causes bad breath. I am a smoker. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/tsesmatas/Pictures/1209101130a.jpg

Oral thrush doesn't just go away. True oral thrush needs a doctor's dx in order to get the antibiotics that are required to clear that type of infection.
It's not a common symptom of HIV anyway.
Just get a test if you are concerned and don't worry about the symptoms. HIV symptoms are non-specific and NO symptom can be linked exclusively to HIV.

its probably nothing. i though i had oral thrush but this week it seems to be dissapearing on its own, and it wouldnt of gone away without treatment if it was oral thrush. i think white tongue is common in smokers, it seems to have cleared up since i quit smoking. try drinking water and avoid cigarettes if you can. you should notice a difference.

It's a common opportunistic infection and the one most often seen. It is one of the defining infections for the classification of AIDS, meaning if you have HIV and one of the defining illnesses or infections you are considered to have AIDS.
Personally it think that's a bit whacked since many of the OI's are also infections that can be seen in the negative population. Technically since I've dealt with a couple of yeast infections in the 14 years I've been positive, it means I have AIDS. If I were negative, nobody would give it a second thought.
However, it is not a common symptom in connection with Acute Retroviral Syndrome and certainly isn't seen only in people with HIV.

Coronzon,
Lol nice picture. But no that's not thrush. Thrush is described as looking like cheddar cheese n urs looks more like a smokers tongue. The whiteness can also be cause by anxiety. But is normal that the older we get n obviously if u smoke the more oral issues we will start to get. Just make sure scrubbing of ur tongue is part of ur daily brushing n also stop smoking or that white tongue will only get worst.
