Hiv survival on organic surfaces (e.g. skin, hair)
      #253337 - 11/30/10 11:59 AM

Hallo. I have read a lot of articles before asking this question but I still have a question (maybe due to the fact that I do not have medical knowledge). We know that HIV does not survive for very long outside the body. Actually as soon as the body fluids that contains are dried then 90-99% of the virus is not active, so there are no worries of contamination due to low concentration, and in just a few hours there is no active virus at all.

My question is whether the active time of the virus is affected by the surface or not. What if the surface is our own skin? Will this affect its active time? For example, let's say that we have body fluids on our skin and after some time (e.g. an hour) that skin (e.g. fingers) touches an open wound or penis. Are there any chances of getting the virus? Does organic surface increase the virus active time? I suspect that it does not but I still have doubts.

Thank you for your time and sorry for my novice English.

Thank you very much for your answer. Unfortunately I recently become very scared about HIV. I really appreciate your answer. Just to be totally relaxed, when we are saying does not survive in the environment and "outside the body" we mean all surfaces even our own skin, hair etc, right ?

Now it is time to leave my fears behind, stop being a micro-phobic and get back my life. Thank you very much. And keep helping stupid scared people. Cheers

that's right. you won't get HIV from touching surfaces or people, hair and skin included!
