Strange circumstances
      #251714 - 08/20/10 12:18 AM

Ok so a little backround I've been somewhat promisicious in 2009 making up for lost time. I only had one partner in 2010 before these two encounters. and none after until I saw my X GF after I got my three month negative and I wanted to believe I didn't have HIV.

Fast forward to april I was going to meet up with this one girl but she canceled for the next night. I got lonely horny and stupid and I went on the net and there was this girl I had talked to a bit previously one thing lead to another and she came over.

We were having sex and she asked to take the condom off I stupidly agreed, we had sex 2-3 times without a condom an hour or so if not longer.

The next day I ended up meeting up with the girl who canceled on me. We were having sex and the condom broke I was moronic and I decided just to take it off as the sex felt better without it on. We had sex a few times as well without the condom the total time being an hour or two if not longer. I recall feeling hot after she left and I finally went grocery shopping slightly feeling a bit off but still normal.

The next day I noticed a cold sore which slightly worried me as I knew I had put myself at risk having unprotected sex with two women of unknown status for extended periods of time. I wasn't thinking about HIV in the heat of the moment(or at that time) or else I would have protected myself better with condoms.

Fast forward to four days from the first encounter I woke up with extreme fatigue, pain in my swollen neck lymph nodes, a weird sense of discomfort aka malaise, muscle weakness, symptoms that soon followed include diarrhea, a fever(chills and hot bouts) a rash on my torso arms upper back, shoulders and chest, intense neurological symptoms, a significant loss in appetite, I noticed bruises on my thighs for no good reason. I also got 6-7 cold sores if not more during the first three weeks post exposure. I also have this skin condition innately called seborrhea only 2-4% of the normal population have it while up to 90% of those with HIV get it and it got VERY inflammed to the point that alone would drive anyone bonkers. I have a hairy leukoplakia tongue to begin with which my dermatologist diagnosed after my GP thought it was thrush a couple years back anyways this got significantly more coated and gross looking, it extended further along to the tip of my tongue and even was discolored.

These more severe symptoms lasted 3-4 weeks I also recall my tongue feeling sort of weird near the end of these symptoms like a raw feeling that is hard to describe. A week or so into these symptoms I became highly suspicious of HIV infection. As these symptoms were all very strange unlike any other sicknesses I've ever had.

I also experienced some night sweats waking up sweaty. after the diarrhea and extreme fatigue etc subsided.

Four months later I'm still having severe fatigue at times neurological symptoms, swollen neck lymph nodes(my GP diagnosed) loss of appetite,(not feeling or getting hungry), a bit of diarrhea from time to time, some times I wake up somewhat sweaty. Even today I've had a pretty annoying headache and I never get headaches, extra GI gas. My skin is still a bit more inflammed than it normally is as well as I'm getting more pimples and whiteheads.

My seborrhea has improved over the weeks which also worries me as I know seborrhea can be associated with a higher viral load this is also the same with my oral hairy leukoplakia it's receeded and it doesn't look too much worse than how it looked innately.

Anyways both of these females have been evasive with me but what would I expect they agreed to have sex with me over the internet and I didn't know them before. Both claim to have been tested one even called the cops after she told me she'd show me her results and then when I was like take a picture of them and send me in a text or show me in person. She called to ask if she had to show me her results and to leave her alone can you believe that! The other one claims to have been test in april and possibly in late may/ early june and says shes had unprotected sex with other guys and none of them got sick so she see's no need to go again! She'll only go again if I can prove I test positive!

I have tested for negative for anti-HIV at 2,4,6,9,13 and 17( a day before 4 months) weeks post exposure.

I had elevated whiteblood cell counts at 2,9, and 10 weeks post exposure specifically neutrophils(these are elevated early on during viral infections. My WBC count was fine at 13 weeks post exposure, I had no other CBC's except these.

Keep in my two years ago when I was having some health problems and I was sick I got a bunch of tests and it was found that I had a I an IgG(immunoglobulin G) level below the reference range as well as very low IgM just barely above the reference range. Immunoglobulins are another name for antibodys IgG are the main antibodys for viruses. I was very prone to cold sores before getting chronic ones during hot bouts in the summer or when I would eat foods high in arginine aka nuts. Arginine is proviral while lysine is antiviral I would have to take a lysine pill when eating my protein/fat meal aka lean protein and natural almond butter or else I'd very often get a cold sore.

My lack of IgG concerns me about the accuracy of a anti-HIV test since anti-HIV tests look for IgG antibodies to HIV as well as sometimes they incorporate IgM as well as IgG for quicker detection.

My one doctor clearly thinks it's something infectious and he has thousands of dollars in tests for me to run. CMV PCR's HIV EIA and HIV WB, Immunolgical evaluations, XMRV tests, possible lyme infection just to a name a few.

I'm thinking about getting refered to an infectious disease specialist.

I also got a CD4 count done at 13 weeks post exposure and my CD4 was 960 at 46% and my CD8 was 486 at 26%. With a 1.97 ratio.

I've read how the ratio of CD4 to CD8 cells can be inverted with HIV infection although most often it doesn't invert until some time later aka many months if not years.

I've also been bruising moreso than I should be like at my 17 week HIV antibody test my arm had a fairly large round bruise for a week. I work out and eat very healthy and am young so I shouldn't be bruising easily.

Another strange thing I've noticed is that I have this skin condition called exfolitive cheilitis where my lower lip builds up dead skin and then it peels off. It's basically an overreaction of the immune system to some medicine I had a bad reaction too and trauma to my skin.

Well anyways since I had these two exposures and got very sick my lower lip has been peeling slower and less dead skin. Things like Tacrolimus(an immunosuppresive cream can be used to treat it) as well as an antibiotic cream called fusidic acid ointment.

What also worries me is this skin condition is prone to medications and supplements making it worse(especially ones that are hard on the liver) if I end up having HIV the toxic HIV medicines will make this skin condition look extremely gross.

Also I have super low HDL naturally(not from diet or lack of exercise) which means I have low hormones not to mention less myelin tissue protecting my nervous system. Which would make me alot more prone to something like demyelinating polyneuropathy.

Anyways my plan is to send off my infectious panel to this one lab at 5 months post exposure as well as get tested again for HIV at 6 months post exposure.

I'd like get HIV behind me but at the end of the day a negative HIV test doesn't make my symptoms go away. Not to mention given some of my underlying health issues I'm not so certain a 3-4 month HIV test is as accurate as it would be for most people.

Can anyone think of anything other than HIV which would have caused my severe acute symptoms as well as the unexplained symptoms I'm still having?

Does anyone think it's unreasonable for me to get tested again I was told that it should be 99% accurate at 3 months post exposure? Given my unexplained symptoms and all the circumstances I don't think it's unreasonable.

Any comments or advice is appreciated.

your symptoms started 4 days after your first encounter from what i have read, most people will feel the symptoms at least two weeks after infection others 4 and 6 weeks with the average being 4 weeks and the symptoms will last from 1 to 2 weeks with the average being 10 days(some people could have them longer but rarely) so 4 days is way to early to start having any symptoms remember that you have germs from somebody else on you and if these girls you were with had a cold or a flu most likely you got it that would explain the early symptoms ..anyways im no expert im just telling you what i have read.. i had a condom breakage that might have put me at risk, so far according to my results at 15 weeks and according to the cdc guidelines for the window period i am not infected....good luck with your situation hopefully everything turns out ok for you, but please DON'T BE A FOOL AND WRAP YOUR TOOL, sex only lasts for a few minutes or maybe an hour according to your story but hiv last forever ..

Thanks for the reply HIV is quite variable and symptoms 4 days post exposure are quite early and it would be unusual but not impossible. Symptoms generally do last 1-2 weeks not too uncommonly they last four weeks and up to 10 weeks at the maximum. The severe symptoms I had lasted in between 3-4 weeks, much longer than a cold or a flu not to mention the sickness itself was very much unlike any other sickness I've ever experienced. I'm still symptomatic as well which is quite odd in itself.

I was told my a nurse who moved to my country from SA that people who get symptoms earlier than most people usually get severe symptoms and in many cases those severe acute symptoms are extended longer than the average.

http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/TreatExp/Q177919.html

You're right I had a condom to start in both of these encounters but I got stupid even with my x gf at three months post exposure after I received my negative test I put a condom on but she took it off when she went to give me a blowjob.

Also according to the CDC for people exposed to a person known to be HIV positive they need to be tested at 3 and 6 months post exposure. Three months is for a partner of unknown status and for people with regular immune systems.

I guess I'm worried about my somewhat weaker immune system and my low IgG levels(below the reference range) which is what a HIV antibody test looks for specifically Anti-HIV IgG.

Also the possibility that divergent strains could make the HIV tests less accurate most tests are geared towards subtype B infections where I live heterosexual women have the highest rate of non sub type B infections.

I was stupid to take viagra and cialis it makes it so you can get hard right after ejaculating so you can have more acts of sex and it can last longer especially on the second and third time where there isn't as much feeling.

You're right HIV does last forever it's not worth the risk I wasn't thinking about the possibility of being infected with HIV in the heat of the moment. HIV is even more uncommon in the country I'm from compared to the United States. Where I live it's recommended that you be in a monogamous relationship for 6 months using protection and only then you should go get tested together and then have unprotected sex.

I should have been smart and got to know a girl well and went on some dates I truly wanted a gf to trust and be my everything but I got lonely horny and stupid and thought I was being maybe too hypervigilant after some stuff in my past and shutting people out for a few months. Then I become stupid and take a chance like this I get so sick and I'm still having unexplained symptoms it's just not right.

One thing that's also odd the other month I found out that one of these females has had anal sex with multiple partners(at the same time DP etc...) very likely unprotected, possibly even for money.

One other thing that I noticed is there was some blood on my sheets a few days after I had her over. I hadn't had anyone else in my room for three months, therefore it's safe to say the blood very likely came from her in some way shape or form. I know I didn't bleed on my sheets and no one else had been in my bedroom.

I told her the other week how it's considered aggravated sexual assault where I live to have unprotected sex with someone when you know you have HIV without disclosing your status. In other words that person can't consent to unprotected sex. She was like well what if that person agrees to that risk. This took me a bit by surprise who in their right mind would consent to put themselves at risk like that. That almost sounds like a bug chaser to agree to unprotected sex with someone who's HIV positive especially receptive anal sex.

Not that any of this really matter thats much what really matter is why I'm still having unexplained symptoms. I don't deserve to suffer like this I had more than enough on my plate before.

I'll need all of the luck I can get!

I'm going to see my doctor in just over a week and I'm going to ask for a referral to an infectious disease specialist.

Thanks Amorie I appreciate it, the same goes for you. If you need anyone to talk to I'll do my best to listen and help you through a tough time.

Take care talk to you soon!

Viral tests...? new
      #251774 - 08/23/10 04:22 PM

If you've had this suspicion all along that your tests for antibodys could be skewered (I'd tell you to ask Dr. Bob if what you say is true ) why wouldn't you get tests that check for the virus , not the antibodys...? New Duo teste , Pcr RNA that's approved ...etc ..? Any Doc in the know can certainly order them .
You do know if you're wrong about your circumstance , and that it does not afect antibody tests that you are in the clear for HIV .

I live in Canada and in my province only infectious disease specialists can order a HIV RNA PCR. Yay universal health care.

This is part of the reason I'm going to ask my doctor for a referral not to mention my other doctor said it's clear that I caught something infectious caused my symptoms and is still very likely the cause of them. Sure it could be something other than HIV I get that but still given the circumstances it hasn't been excluded.

Hi guys, I don't know if you commenters are still alive or around on this site but if you are or if other people see this help me out. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person in this boat but at the same time I'm deeply disturbed that failed seroconversion has happened and probably still continues to happen.
I'm like you but have had less testing and it covers a longer period of time. My story: condom slipped off while sex with a hooker, 4 weeks later very sick (high fever and body aches) 2 weeks after that, sick again (high fever and body aches). I didn't think anything of it at the time, just figured I caught some common harmless bug. 9 months after the hooker I got an EIA test negative. 14 months after finger prick test, negative. 18-19 months 3 Oraquick mouth swab tests, all negative. 20 months, EIA test, negative.
Symptoms after ARS symptoms. Started seeing symptoms 9 months after my exposure. I'm 20 months into HIV, so symptoms from 9-20 months. (I didn't have a very long asymptomatic stage, I'm most likely now in the symptomatic stage) (If I don't produce antibodies then this could be why I'm progressing quickly) Horrible diarrhea if I don't sleep well, upper body aches every couple months, where lymph nodes are(feels almost like growing pains but comes from lymph nodes), body temp has raised 1-2 degrees and stays that high constantly, bad fatigue, slow healing cuts, trouble stopping bleeding, fungal outbreak on arm around 14 months after(lasted for 3 months), feels like my IQ has dropped, I'm not nearly as sharp and aware of my surroundings, for the past week and a half I've had a sore throat that shows no signs of getting better, I've had swollen lymph nodes for months, mainly neck, I've lost 18 pounds in 5 months, loss of appetite, headaches, and don't feel well.
I'm getting a viral load test tomorrow. I was told not to worry so badly that I didn't research like I should've. If I would've I would've gotten a PCR months ago and would know by now and this wouldn't have taken years off my life...
If anyone is out there who has a story similar to mine please respond!
