Broken Condom New HIV strain or What? WORRIED
      #251309 - 07/24/10 09:56 AM

Well here is my situation
had exposure in mid may 2009 with Commercial Sex Worker (CSW) condom broke ,had rapid test in June and August 2009 all came out negative. had Elisa (elecsys) test for HIV 1 and 2 endsept 2009 came out negative. Had QL DNA PCR test mid october 2009 came out negative. Several Rapid test every two months there after up to early march 2010 all negative. Mid March 2010 had Elisa (elecsys) test
for HIV 1 and 2 came out negative. Had QL DNA PCR (DBS) test end May 2010 (after more than 1 year) which came out negative. I believe the DNA PCR test
are for HIV 1. But the body experiencing increased sweating, burning and sweatyfeet soles
and hoarse voice. I also experienced a couple of night sweats in june, july and august 2009. I also had red streaks moving from point to point on my body in July 2009. could it be HIV.
I did my cd4 early may 2010 and it was 400 and cd% 32. This got me worried because I have a fungal infection tinea pedis that is failing to clear on my feet soles even with Oral and Topical medications. I have read that fungal infections are a problem with people who have a comprised immune
system were as healthy people will simply and easily fight them off. My soles are getting sweaty as well when I have shoes on and off. The skin under my fingers has become reddish for about half the nail size. My palms
and feet soles have become soft as well. I am also having a consistently dry throat.
I am now past the 6 months window. I have done Hepatitis A,B and C tests all negative. Syphilis, Gonorrhoea, and Chylamadia All negative. Tuberculosis negative. I have had unprotected sex with wife who has also developed a horse voice and some soles which indicate minor fungal infection. She has had several rapid finger prick test (determine for HIV 1and 2) since early june 2009 up to early mid june 2010 all came negative.
She has a hoarse voice as well Considering that I am in sub-Saharan Africa where HIV is rampant and our soldiers go to West Africa for peace keeping missions and the CSW confirmed she had a soldier boyfriend who went to Sierra Leone. CSW first said she was HIV+ and later changed she was joking she is HIV-.
Is the Elisa (elecsys) for HIV 1 and 2 able to detect antibodies to all subtypes for HIV 1 and 2? Is the QL DNA PCR able detect genetic material for all subtypes for HIV 1. Since i cant not get a QL DNA PCR for HIV 2 I am worried. Mid July 2010 did a unigold rapid test for HIV 1/2 and it was negative. The question is if all the tests are negative then what is affecting my health.
Is it that there is a HIV new strain or is it one of these Circulating Recombinant Forms (CRFs) whose antibodies and genetic material can not be detected. Is it one of those longest seroconversion past 14 months since tests negative. All doctors I have seen have said I am conclusively negative and should stop worrying. Please comment on my worries that i could be infectedwith an undetectable new strain.

Negative . new
      #251312 - 07/24/10 02:02 PM

Docs are on point : Negative . To answer your specific question: NO . The tests you've had , especially the DNA's and RNA's would have caught it . Fungal infecions and dry throat in Sub-Sahara Africa are you kidding me ! that's a wright of passage , i bet 60% of the population has constant chronic fungal infections ! You've had dry throats many times before , that is for sure , try some lozenge therapy and some honey . Get that CSW worker to a clinic , some jokes aren't funny , in the off chance she is HIV + convince her to have a blood draw Elisa so there's enough to document strain , remember though if it's positive that means if her strain got picked up your's would have to ! Either way you win . Leve the CD4's alone , the next day it could have been 500+ , it's porbably in the 800's now ! STAY AWAY FROM CSW's !!!!!!!!

Thanks for your encouraging comment. I continue to worry just because i cannot get a DNA PCR for HIV 2 or i am just thinking its a wild type. The other reason is that some people are HIV+ on antibodies and DNA PCR comes undetectable all the time. getting the CSW for test now would not be a good idea as she could have possibly contracted HIV from any other people by now as it is over 14months since exposure. As for other problems like fungal infections they are so evident, the sweaty feet soles so irritating espcially when walking bare feet. A consistent throat irritation as well. These keep me worried that may be one day it may just turn to be + . I forgot to mention that i have been sweating excessively during the day when it is hot.

Antibodies, Dna . . . new
      #251352 - 07/26/10 10:50 PM

it is very rare to impossible for a dna and a rna test to both be false negative . False positive there's a chance but for BOTH ! , very very slim . People tht are HIV + have undectectable viral loads because they're on medicine to lower them , but their antibody tests are +, something yours are not !
Gee, your body's swesting in the hot weather , hymmm....? soinds like a normal body reaction to me . BTW your symptoms are NOT indicative of HIV.
In addition , any of the antibody tests you've had test for 1/2 , and don't miss much these days . I think at this point you should ask Doctor Bob for an answer in the "Ask the Experts" section 3rd. face down from the far left .
Stay safe . . .

just to let you know i did not take the RNA test as it is not available here but did the DNA PCR only. I asked Dr. Bob and he said no more HIV testing is warranted check the answer below:

You have overwhelming and irrefutable evidence that you are HIV negative. HIV is not your problem. No way. No how. No additional HIV testing is warranted. (You've had way too many already.)

Whatever is causing your CD4 cell fluctuation one thing is certain: It's not HIV! CD4 counts can bounce up and down for a wide variety of reasons. An isolated reading of 400 is not at all worrisome.

Are you experiencing delayed seroconversion? No, you are not. You are experiencing unwarranted fear caused by a test that should never have been obtained and is not diagnostic for HIV disease.

I urge you and all readers to stick to the recommended testing guidelines!

there is no new HIV strain. You have done more than enough testing. You do not have HIV!

You can't rely on symptoms to diagnose HIV. They can be caused by other things, including stress and anxiety. In fact, many people with HIV show no symptoms for many years. You have to trust your many, many negative test results.

I do not have hiv. I have all these symptoms together with my wife hoarse voice, fungal feet, oily skin on face and soft palms then whats is causing this. my wife is expecting i believed the results at six months but if she continues to test negative the baby may be at risk if there is infection. I really want to put this to rest and move on.if the hiv virus has mutated then a lot of people are going to test negative and infection will spread like wildfire.Someone please help me

Improved CD4 count could this be a good sign new
      #251975 - 09/07/10 10:13 AM

I just had cd4 count check over the weekend. last time in early May 2010 Cd4 count 400 and CD% 32 (Lab1) another lab Cd4 count 379 and CD% 37 (Lab2).. this time ealy September 2010 Cd4 count 650 and CD% 39 (Lab2)
). Could this be a conclusive and indicate that the initial drop was due to anxiety and depression

So 3 months or 6 months is not conclusive for HIV new
      #252308 - 09/28/10 01:26 PM

Look at post below from another forum it took 5 years to seroconvert,

hey y'all,
My story is the same as most. ... but hearing im positive has thrown me for a loop. I cried and cried and swore i wouldnt tell a soul. Im embarrased and ashamed, and feel so isolated. But i ended up telling my two best friends, which was an instant relief. Saying it out loud was hard. Almost fake, like i was lying. Anyhow, now that im aware and have researched this til my fingers were numb, is it normal or common to feel like im experiencing every symptom? I feel like a hypochondriac. The other part of that is the emotional aspect. Will i ever find someone who will love me, and except me for what it is?

5 years ago i met a man i fell head over heals in love with. He was infected but never told me. i saw him on the news one night, as being wanted for knowingly having HIV and tryin to expose women. A con man if you will. That day i also learned i was pregnant. Imagine ......
I had the baby, and tested negative all the way til last week. Its been nearly 5 years. The man is in prison.
I hate feeling sorry for myself, or feeling like a victim. Im so independent and confident, this has been a rough week.
I have 4 kids. One is recently married. I have alot to fight for. But im scared. I feel sick, a lil. My stomach is nauseous, and queasy. I have a dry couch, swollen glands, and shortness of breath, but mainly in the mornings.
i cant get in to see my specialist til next month. labs were drawn, levels will be revealed. I tested negative Nov 2009. So from then til now....what a change. I also have herpes 1 and 2. And rheumatoid arthritis. So i have alot going on....
I know about levels, meds, and living a normal life just from reading all of your advice and wisdom. So medically, im informed. Thank you all for that
But emotionally, im ready to break down. Like my spirit is broken. its so hard to find love for the average joe but i imagine all of this on top of it. i think about my kids and how devastating it would be on them if they lost me.....most of my thoughts are on that type of stuff. How others will be, how others will feel. im def a mom through and through. I guess its time to take a time out for myself.
I would love to meet some friends in my shoes. I guess i will find out about local support groups in my area. That may be nice to have.
Just prayers and support!
Thanks guys

yea well when I see the medical write up in some medical journal I'll believe it, but until then it's just urban myth some bored kid is trying to start.

Won't be the first time or the last some gullible person falls for anything they read on the net.

I really think it's kinda pitiful to see people trying so hard to convince complete strangers that there is a reason their negative test results should not be believe. You all try so hard, it's almost painful to watch...and the truth is that in the end....who really cares?
