What is a break in the skin?

Do any of you know what people actually mean when they say things like "HIV can be transmitted through a break in teh skin?" I am wondering because I bite my nails and the skin around my nails. It's a bad habit. Anyway, the skin won't often bleed, but the top layer of the skin will sometimes tear off, leaving it pretty raw. (Anybody who bites their nails will know what I'm talking about here).
In any event, would that be comsidered a break in the skin? thanks fro any advice or help.

hey your situation is same with me.. and I'm still very very worried because I have very very mild pharyngitis (it doesn't even hurt.. my throath is red and red throath means there's a problem) for 2 weeks.. I asked so many experts and they all told me chances are very very low.. but pharyngitis makes me worry so much..
