My boyfriend recently found out that he has a MRSA staph infection. He was given a course of sulfamethoxazole 2x a day for 10 days. He began taking the medication and on day 2 he developed chills. Each day as he was taking the medication his symptoms gotten increasingly worse, like the flu - headache, flucating fever, body aches, chills, etc. He also developed an upset stomach for several days. He went to the doctor and she told him to head to the hospital. He was then admitted - there they tested him for EBV, the flu all of which came back negative. He was in the hospital for 4 days due to his fever and headache which ranged from 99.5 - 101.6. The last day he developed a slight rash on his neck, and chest which was gone within 24hrs. He looks skinny now too, and lost maybe about 8-10lbs, now weighing 165lbs. He was also complaining of being itchy for a couple days after. All blood tests came back fine, including WBC, however the liver enezymes came back elevated each day, including the day he was released. He is following up with the dr to monitor this. After 2 weeks, he is finally feeling better, although I read about ARS symptoms. What if it could of been ARS, I am very scared...please help.

A MRSA staph infection has nothing to do with HIV.
So for no real reason you have decided to worry about this all being ARS? What kind of risk did your boyfriend have that would make you think such a thing?
