HELP - Very worried about oral sex encounter!!!
      #24726 - 11/16/01 06:58 PM

Hi all,

I've posted my concerns on the 'Ask The Experts' with no avail ... so I'm hoping I can get some good sound answers here.

I'm a male, about 2 1/2 weeks ago I had another guy perform oral sex on me. I wore a condom from beginning to end ... which did not appear to break. However, an hour afterwards I noticed a couple very very tiny tears on one side of my penis right under the head. The guy has many anonymous sexual partners ... said he only performs oral sex on them though - so I'm guessing he's in a high risk group.

So with that ... here's my questions:
1. Regarding the tears on my penis ... could they just be a result of being sucked VERY hard (which i was)? Or do they mean that the condom definitely broke and I just didn't notice it when taking it off?

2. What are my chances of being infected? Should I get tested as a result of this event?

3. I have been experiencing these symptoms - weight loss, diarhea 1x every morning for the past 1 1/2 weeks, fatigue, some muscle aches that last for 1-2 days, loss of apetite, light-headedness/dizziness sometimes. Are these symptomatic of AVS? I DO NOT HAVE headaches or a fever (which I thought would be more likely) but I'm still concerned. Also, could all of these symptoms simply be attributed to anxiety? I'm constantly thinking that I have HIV ... am very very anxious ... and think that my mind might be causing most of these ailments.

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated ... I really want to overcome my worries and anxieties based upon what I did but I'm just having a hard time kicking them. I plan on getting tested in a couple of weeks (here it is 90% accurate), but am having a hard time living day to day in the meantime.

Thanks mucho!!!!

First off calm down. You probably haven't received an anwser from the experts because they have answered this type of question several times before.

While I have never worn a condom, it is my understanding that if it breaks you know it. Any quys out there, feel free to correct me.

It doesn't matter if you had a deep gash on your penis, you wore a condom. It is an effective barrier.

You didn't have a deep gash and even if you did not wear a condom, I have seen the experts say testing would not be warranted. There are NO DOCUMENTED cases of transmission from GETTING a blow job.

I would say all your symptoms could be attributed to anxiety. ARS typical shows between 2-4 weeks after exposure. Your symptoms have just come too soon to be ARS. Besides, while those symptoms could present with ARS, the most common symptom is a HIGH fever. When you calm down and think about that it makes sense. What does the body do when it is trying to fight off a virus, like the flu? It raises the body temperature in an effort to kill of the invading virus. It is part of the immune response. HIV is just another viral infection. The body will react the same way it does for anyother virus.

Test at 3 months to help settle this issue in your mind. If you are worried enough to post then probably only a negative result will ease your worry. Do you self a favor however and DO NOT research HIV and symptoms. Anyone can find evidence that they are infected. It's not true, but the mind can turn facts around in a heart beat.

Relax, you are not at risk.

J.

Go to a doctor or clinic. Get tested now, today. new

Go to a doctor or medical center clinic. Get tested now, today. Getting tested now combined with any further tests later is more useful than waiting because the combined information from the early and later tests can optimize any treatment needed. It's better than delaying and having to end up needing emergency or more critical care.

I don't believe there is one documented case of anyone becoming infected via receiving oral sex - you won't be the first.

A doctor can make a diagnosis and treat it. new
      #24734 - 11/16/01 10:14 PM

What ever is the matter, a doctor is trained to make a diagnosis. Contributors like us to a public forum aren't experts when it is a matter of your health. Besides other sexually transmitted diseases there're all kinds of other things to consider that a doctor can rule out depending on what you tell the doctor.

Your chance of getting hiv is 0. Search the forums on the Body or any reputable site like John Hopkins. Your symptons do not correlate with ARS. Your risk exposure even if the condum broke is still essentially ZERO. Any knowledgeable hiv councilor would not recommend testing in your case. PERIOD
