blood tranfusions
      #247109 - 08/20/09 07:40 AM

hi ppl, I got one simple question or 2 or3 ... I just had a blood transfusion about 2 weeks ago and i didn't have HIV then, my test came back negative. I don't mess around or use drugs. I want to know how well do these hospitals test the blood before the give it too you? Ok, and in the past year. How many known HIV+ cases have came up from people receiving blood from the hospital? And since I did have to receive blood, do I need to be tested again? Someone please respond to me ASAP! I need to know.

According to NIH you have about a 1 in 2 million chance of acquiring HIV from a blood transfusion. Test 3 months after your transfusion for peace of mind, but don't get yourself all stressed out over the 'odds'. Hell 'odds' are more likely to die in a car accident.
