possible infection
      #245460 - 04/21/09 06:17 AM

Hi to everyone. I'm 29-year old male. Last February 20 me and my friends got drunk and we go ourselves prostitutes. Being so drunk, i never got to wear a condom. After 3 days i felt feverish and lightheaded. It went on for weeks. I also had hard time urinating. The doctor treated me with antibiotics due to gonnorhea/syphilis.

After a week due to my paranoia i got tested with hiv and result came out negative. After a month i got tested again, negative. But 2 weeks ago I got oral thrush.

I plan to get tested this week again (at 2 months). Living these past months has been like hell. Very depressed i want to end my life already. I have a girlfriend who is overseas and she doesn't know what's happening in my life. I'm relatively young and want to have a family but right now I don't know if i can still have one. I've been praying to God to end my life already.

First thing you should do is tell your girlfriend. She has the right to now it. You can pray but I don't think God helps people who lie and betray. Don't worry because you won't be infected, but that doesn't mean that everything is ok. You are still betraying your girlfriend and she is the true victim in all this. So don't feel so compasive about yourself. Think about what you have first, please. There are many people in the world, specialy women who have been infected by their boyfriends/housbands, unfaithful men having unprotected sex with prostitutes and not saying it to their girlfriends/women. That is ilegal and inmoral.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

My girlfriend is overseas, so she is not with me right now. She went away first week of february, and my possible exposure was 3rd week of feb. I love her and will not do what you said.

Again, thank you for your reply

Your month test was a very good indicator. Several US states now use the 6 week window so a negative at 4 weeks is an excellent indicator that you will continue to test negative.

I don't think it's proper to moralize your behavior, since you haven't put anyone in direct danger of contracting HIV. You need to remember however, that drunk is not a good excuse for not using condoms. Use 'em and play safe in the future.

Leonidas,

I can understand that you feel bitter because the guy you thought you were in a relationship with was cheating on you and gave you HIV. Girlfriend status is not the same as wife status and while I can see the wife as a 'unwitting victim', that doesn't apply to a girlfriend.

You found out about your status when you became pregnant, out of wedlock, by a man that you were not in a committed relationship with. It would seem that you made the choice NOT to use condoms. Just as with most people that are HIV positive. You are to blame also for your own status and you need to own up to your own part in the fact you are living with HIV today. You chose not to exercise personal responsiblity.

Wonder how God feels about that?

Fortunately for women, girlfriends and wives have the same status in the country I live in (Spain), even homosexual couples. The commitment is exactly the same, no matter the "legal status of your relation". And of course I don't even take into consideration religious marriage, because I am not a believer. I have never put anybody in risk and I only say that we shold be honest with the people we love and put them in the first place.

I see. So I guess that means you abdicated any personal responsiblity for protecting your own health. I'm sorry you feel that you have no personal power over your own life.

My point is that a wife has an expectation that a husband won't cheat. A girlfriend doesn't since the man has not made the ultimate commitment to her of marriage and the implied....forsaking all others that goes with marriage. As seems the case in your own history.

It's true relationships can thrive without marriage, but as you pointed out, even homosexual couples fight for the right to marry. Why? So they to can say to the world, I want this person, this person is so important to me that I will forsake all others.

Go ahead and continue to play the victim in life. For some people I guess it's just easier than looking themselves in the mirror and accepting responsiblity.

Thank you to esmeralda and to everyone who provided me with information these past months.

You are right dead on. Symptoms are just symptoms. I got tested at 12 weeks and got a negative result.

Still lightheaded and dizzy though. Doctor said might be anxiety.

Thanks again.
