I got blood drawn last wendesday for general health and all the std's. I went to see my doctor yesterday. Everything came back fine with the exception of 2 things. My hiv results hadn't come in but she said this is normal because they have to mail that test. Still, that worries me. She also told me i tested "reactive" to Hepatitis C. My range was very low though. Anything over 1.00 is considered reactive but because mine was 1.32 she said it may be just a false positive and now I have to take another test which may take 4-6 weeks to get an answer on. She will be out untill the 23rd so I won't know about my HIV test untill then. I am a bisexual male but I have never used drugs and have always used protected sex. I don't see how I could have possibly have gotten HEP C but now this is making me worried about my HIV results. Anyone know how common is it to get a false positive on a HEP C test? Also, my doctor mentioned that although the HIV test hadn't come in yet, if it did come back positive they're usually much quicker in getting her the results. Any advice but I am going to be mulling about this for a while.

I don't know how the HEP C test works, but if you feel that there is no way you would have gotten it and your doctor says that it might be a false positive, then try to look at that result as a false positive until you get the result back from your next test.
Try getting in touch with the local AIDS service organization you can even find them in the country if you live in a rural area. Many of them offer the Orasure test with immediate results. You could have an answer as to your HIV status long before the 23rd. If you can find an ASO, try the local health department. They might do orasure testing.
