Why someones can have false negative test result after years!!!!

Seroreversion: Some patients serorevert in late-stage disease. Seroreversion may also occur in patients who achieve prolonged immune reconstitution due to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

Some person can go directly to AIDS after 1-2 year after exposure, average is 10 years and some person donīt have symptoms of HIV 15-20 years after exposure, these are called Long time non progressors. So maybe kimberly had serorevertet already in 93-96 and this explains her negative results. and also U.S didnīt always use the newest Elisa test then either! this is medical facts that people serorevert after long time and receives False negatives. ASK YOUR DOCTOR and YES, You can have a false negative after 10 years IF you have AIDS already, so if you should have been exposed today and then test your self after 10 years so can you have False negative result because "seroreversion" Nothing is 100% safe and HIV test is not 100% after 10 years either! their is people that have been exposed and then 2 years after have full blown AIDS and of course the test may be negative because seroreversion. Be happy with a 3 month test you will never have 100% in a test and that a FACT.

So basically if you dont test at the 6month mark and wait 2-4 years to test, your basically screwed, and your negative result means nothing????????? Dang, from what everyones told me if you test negative after 2yrs you definatly dont have HIV.....why even go thru testing if its after 6months then!!!!!!!!!!!

I donīt understand what problem you have! I donīt say that you canīt trust a 6 month test. But we have cases that have been exposed and then 1-2 years after have alrady AIDS, this is not common but it have happend and if You have AIDS you may serorevert wich means your body is so damaged that your antibody disappear and donīt show up in the antibody test and if so you need a another test. So in basic you can have a false negative test 2 years after and the reason for that is that you already have AIDS and have serorevert. Please remember this is not common but your test is not 100% years after exposure and i hopes that you can see why. Whatīs the problem to understand this? we all have this in our minded and I donīt tries to scare you I am only tries to explaine why Kimberly showed negative at her test and this is not common and It is the same for HIV window 6 month are not common but MAY happen. Donīt be so upset this was only a explanation on why Kimberly may have had false positive test and not to thrust your 6 month or 1 years test of course should you thrust the result but 100% you can never be in medical science and tests! please calm down.

Hi,
First of all take it easy what you write you will worry a lots of people on this forum. When you talk om AIDS can produce a false negative result, itīs wrong in year 2001, in the beginning with the old test First generation it may have cause False negative results but with the new third generation test and with frozen samples of the negative tests used in the begining that caused false negative test result, specialist have showed that Third generation have been positive in those that showed negative results and had AIDS. So this does not happen today with 3rd Generation tests. So to you all thrust your negative result at 3 or 6 month. Take care!

Not in someone who has full blown aids with a very low t4 count of say 10 and a viral load in the millions. They will have stopped producing antibodies, that's why their bodies will have all sorts of illness going on. They also won't be going on with life as normal, they will be too sick, in and out of doctor's offices and hospital. A doctor would do a PCR which started being used in late 95 - early 96.
