Signs of Oral Hairy Leukoplakia - PLEASE HELP

Hi all,
I am a worried male from UK & would greatly appreciate your help.
I had protected sex with an individual of unknown sexual status in 2007 October. I decided to get a test 1 year after this incident due to the fear of HIV. I tested negative. my test was done at a UK - GUM clinic.
However i had a small pain/swelling in the left side of the tongue and later there was a white patch (like dead skin) on this spot. It disappeared few days later. this happened twice. Once before my HIV test in 2008 august and also after the test in nov 2008. When i examined my tongue I see that the sides are ridged and has white lines running. I also see some oral hairy leukoplkia like patterns beneath these lines.
I know that i should not diagnose myself. I have decided to see a dentist to get this problem out of my mind. However it would be great if u guys can talk to me on this issue and give your opinions.
I think it is an anxiety issue but it would be great if someone can talk to me about this.

I don't know what's going on with your mouth and tongue, but I do know that a test at 1 year is completely conclusive. You do not have HIV. Chill and get to the dentist or an ENT doctor.

What keeps me worried is that this has never happened to me before & why has it happened 8 months after this incident ?
Do u know if oral hairy leukoplakia occurs after about 8 months of HIV exposure ?
There are a lot of conditions similar to oral hairy leukoplakia so i will try to calm down. I get all sorts of negative thoughts like what if my test was false negative etc ...
anyway hope everything will be ok & thanks for your time.

The site answers better than I could. The short answer is that OHL is not normally seen in an early HIV infection.

I know what you're going through, dude. But, based on a negative test at 12 months and the activity you describe, the odds of you being HIV+ are non-existent.

I'll try to stay calm till I see a dentist. The past year has been really stressful for me. I sincerely wish that no one experiences the mental stress that I have had from this experience.
I pray to god that a cure for this cursed disease will be found soon and the millions suffering will be saved.

I understand the stress more than you can imagine. But in your case, you've done the hard part, which is getting the test. You can finally relax.

going to see an ENT specialist today. I pray that everything will be ok.
