Have been dealing with a nondescript itch and no visible rash. It has been 5 weeks since an episode that potentially exposed me to HIV. I have been dealing with this itch since the beginning of November.
Any thoughts or ideas as to the cause?
Irrational fear that this is an early symptom? Tested negative twice so far since 10/20/08

Hi,
ARS symptoms are often deceptive and the advice generally is, you shouldnt diagnose your status based on your symptoms. 5 week negative test is encouraging, perhaps some insight on your exposure might help the cause...assess your situation...

To explain the situation a bit more in detail, on 10/20/08 I had unprotected vaginal intercourse. 3 days later I had a full blood panel done to test for HIV. After doing this I have come to learn that that test gave me a baseline of my health prior to the incident.
At week four I went to a local clinic and had a "rapid" test done that came back negative.
To add a little more light on the "diagnosis" I had surgery in August and have been on antibiotics along with prednisone since. My recent antibiotic was Avelox and i am now done to 1mg of Prednisone froma high of 40mg plus the dosages while in hospital.
Obviously I have done something stupid, my 10/20/08 event. I am searching for information to settle my concerns about exposure and risk. The internet is a plethora of infomration and mis-information. It is hard to decipher what is fact and what is fiction.

hi,
The fact is unprotected vaginal sex puts you at risk for variety of STD's and HIV, albeit the risk is low. Moreover, the status of the person with whom you engaged in this activity is unknown.
3 days is too early to test for HIV. Well, i do understand it’s certainly hard to rest your fears, consequently, concentrate on anything else than 'HIV'.
But trust me, you are at low risk, and, symptoms mean nothing, so don’t try and diagnose on the basis of presence or absence of symptoms. A test at 6 weeks, should give some indication.
Meanwhile, from hereon, if you choose to engage in any sexual activity, use condoms...
Goodluck
