Low White Blood Cell count
      #243062 - 11/07/08 12:30 PM

Hi,
I recently had a Full Blood Count taken as routine as i have had bad stomach aches etc recently. When they returned they showed a low white blood cell count. The blood was taken about a week after a very drunken incident with a guy. We had sex and I am unaware if he wore a condom. He assures me he did but I am not sure if i believe him. I have also being feeling a little dizzy over the last few days.
My questions are:
1. Does a low white blood cell count indicate possible infection?
2. Are these dizzy spells anything to be worried about?
3. Getting tested after 23 days is reported to be a good indication but not conclusive. Seen as though he has said that he was wearing a condom, should I take this test as a realistic indication of my status.

Thanks in advance for your replies!!!

Neither your low white blood count or your dizzy spells are indicitive of HIV infection. These are issues you need to discuss with your doctor.

On average people will start to develop antibodies by 25 days. While any negative test is a good thing, your recent test is just too early for this most recent of your concerns....which brings me to another point. I don't understand the logic of 'should I take this test as a realistic indicator since he MIGHT have worn a condom. If he wore a condom, then no test was needed. If he didn't wear a condom, then you need to test on the recommended window time frame, and if as you said, this time and before, that you were too drunk to know...then base your actions as if he didn't wear a condom.

You just finished riding out a waiting period and here you are again. Perhaps this time around you might spend some time thinking about what behavior changes might be beneficial to you so that you don't keep going with this constant worry of HIV infection.
