I've read that the window period for most people is 3 months after exposure and the rest of the people will show antibodies at 6 months - im confused over this cause ive read that a supressed immune system will mess up results but does it mean no matter what after 6 months antibodies will show up in everyone? How would you really knew if your immune system was supressed and messing up your results? Does everyone show up for antibodies after 6 months no matter how sick they are or are there special circumstances?
THANK YOU

The only way that antibodies would not show up or have not shown up by the 3 month period was for folks going through chemotherapy, like for cancer, and for people that have sever drug additions, when their body is so busy fighting other infections, HIV is the least of its worry, I hope that makes sense. For that reason a 3 month test is conclusive, also the CDC recommends the six months for those that have those issues. D

thanks florida! u said "when their body is so busy fighting other infections," and also "drug addictions" - how would anyone really know if there body was fighting off any infections? But so no matter what after 6 months its conclusive in any situation - even those on chemotherapy and fighting off infections? reason im asking is...I adrenal fatigue and have many other problems with that - but i have tested after 6 months and im negative but got all confused when it came to a supressed immune system

You six months negative results are indeed conclusive, HIV is not your problem. Your doctor is more qualified to give better answers than I about your health and what infections you may have. ITake care, D

X....I assure you anyone will show by 3 months, the confusion comes in, when they attempt to not leave anyone out. i.e cancer patients,etc....the window is still 3 months, just the start of that 30 day window is delayed depending on their last treatment.....
Let me reassure you that "most" will seroconvert (produce detectable antibodies) between 7 & 8 weeks, the 13week/30 day window, is just a cushion for your own assurity. This is done this way simply because of human dishonesty & shame, HIV is a disease that makes you have to tell things you may otherwise considered secret, personal, etc.
I'm no doctor, but my experience at getting people tested for HIV, and my own personal research, combined with the info that you have provided, its safe for me to say you are not HIV+, at the date of the last testing....if you have exercised the proper prevention procedures since then, consistently.....then you arent going to be Poz.
In closing , a piece of advise when researching on the net : always consider the source* by this I dont only mean the author, I mean the whole package, including the date it was published, etc. there is a ton of outdated info on the net, not just about HIV/AIDS , but about almost anything
good luck & God Bless*

thanks AIDS2HIV! im confused on when u said "I assure you anyone will show by 3 months, the confusion comes in, when they attempt to not leave anyone out. i.e cancer patients, etc" - what does that mean exactly - like basically I just wanna know like - cancer patients for example or a supressed immune system - tons of people could have supressed immune systems due to cancer and not even know it and then for HIV - like thats my concern - wouldnt it mess up the results and thus those people wouldnt show up for antibodies at the 3 month mark? I could have a surpessed immune system right now and not even know it

You would have to already be on Chemotherapy/Raditiation for your immune system to be damaged that much. If don't know you have cancer, and test for HIV at 3 months, the the test is conclusive. You immune system is damaged by the chemotherapy/radiation, not the cancer. If you have even known anyone that is going through treatement for cancer, then you would know that many times they ask that they not have a lot of outside contact with others, due to their lacking immune system. If you had a suppressed immune system you would know it, there is so much bacteria in the air you would have to live in a plastic bubble to be healthy. Your immune system fights off everything, remember numbers do not always mean anything. If you had a supressed immune system your T cells would be way below 350, they would be under 100, I hope that makes sense. D

ok...lets take chemo for instance.....30days after your last treatment, the 90day window would actually begin...again, thats a cushion*......I have yet to see anyone's test results change after 90days, unless the put themselves at risk after*.
