Hi, are dry skin / dandruff, and sweating symptoms of HIV. Over the past year I have noticed both excessive dandruff and sweating. I also have dry skin on my face and the skin on my cheeks flakes off on occasion. I dont really have night sweats, just will break out in a drenching sweat with the slightest physical activity. I also have noticed some sores in my mouth on occasion. Does Thrush look like a isolated sore here and there, or more like a coating over your mouth. Every now and then I'll get some bumps in my mouth white in the center, and red around. They are usually pretty small, and last for a week or so. I have two risky experiences in my life. One was a low risk accident. I fingered a girl prior to putting on a condom. While taking the condom out of the package immediatly after fingering her I put my finger inside the comdom to get it oriented. My other risky exposure was a one time unprotected vaginal sexual encounter about 2 years ago. Basically I'm wondring on the following questions.
1.) Are dry skin and dandruff common in people with HIV?
2.) Is excessive sweating commin in people with HIV?
3.) Does Trush appear as I have described, or is it different?
4.) Am I signifigantly at risk from my exposures described?
Thank you for your time.

I have those symptoms too. They are very bothersome and keep me in constant fear that my test results were wrong. My skin is dry on every part of my body and I have had fungal infections, dandruff and white crap in my mouth. If anybody has an answer please reply.

The type of symptoms you describe could be a result of many, many things. It doesn't sound like HIV. If you are worried take the antibody test and move on. Have you discussed the condition with a Doctor?
Take care,

1.) Are dry skin and dandruff common in people with HIV?
No. HIV is a virus that destroys the immune system. If you had AIDS, then maybe some skin affliction could be causing this, but you are no where near the time period of getting AIDS(10 years) and your exposures/symptons don't indicate that you have HIV.
2.) Is excessive sweating commin in people with HIV?
No. Nightsweats are a possibilty, but are related to fever normally.
3.) Does Trush appear as I have described, or is it different?
No, it doesn't appear as you describe. Thrush appears as a thick white coating on your tongue and is painful. For those of you who will go look at your tongue, yes, your tongue is already white on some parts. Don't freak, it's normal. If you can scrape off the white stuff and it's painful, then maybe.
4.) Am I signifigantly at risk from my exposures described?
Nope, you are not significantly at risk. The condom experience is low risk/no risk. No need to worry there. The unprotected vaginal encounter is a risk, but depends on a lot of factors. One, was she HIV+? You didn't say, so she's probably unknown. Two, the risk involved. According to case study, the chances of you contracting HIV from unprotected sex is 1 in 500(1.7 in 1000 actually). And finally, 3, was she a drug user or someone that could have had significant exposure to make you think that she had HIV? Given all of this, I bet you don't need to worry too much on that encounter either.
If you've got symptons(regardless of the possible illness) and you are worried, GO SEE THE DOCTOR. In your case, go see a dermatologist about skin and sweating problems. This does not sound like HIV. If you're still paranoid, go get tested. That's the best way to know. As has been stated, and very obviously seen this week, symptons are NOT a good way of diagnosing yourself. There have been many people with symptons that are much more typical of HIV here that have tested negative.

The white stuff on your tongue is NORMAL!! VERY VERY NORMAL!!! If you stare at it long enough it looks bad. If you had thrush, your tongue would be painful (from what I have heard it hurts like crazy)
Everyone needs to stop looking at their tongues because that is not a good indicator of infection anyways.
