On average it takes only 25 days for detectable antibodies to develop. The body recognizes and starts to fight off HIV, just like any other virus or bacteria from day one. It doesn't invade the body and just do nothing. Any test at 3 months and after is conclusive.

It depends on the test.
There are different generations on the ELISA test that looks for the antibodies in order to detect HIV, and the newer ones can detect the antibodies earlier, but I think the rule of thumb is to wait 12 weeks for it to be conclusive.

hi there...

A person should have detectable antibodies 4 weeks post exposure. However, since immune pattern varies from an indivdual to individual, it seems to be quite pertinent that an individual takes a test 12 weeks post exposure.

Having said that, a test around 6-8 weeks, though not conclusive, might throw some light on your status!

cheers
