Hi there, I tested negative at about 5 weeks after protected sex with a CSW. Sore throat and thrush will not go away. My GP has given me several antibiotics and treated my oral thrush with Nystatin and Mycelex. Niether one seems to get rid of my thrush. Tongue is still white all over. My throat is always sore. This has been going on since January. I still don't feel normal. I have been sick three times with a real bad flu in the last four months. Monday, I have another appointment with a different GP. I will get tested again. I am scared to death. This really consumes me. I know you all will say my risk was low because I wore a condom. But when you look up oral thrush there are about a hand full of things that give you that symptom. HIV is one of them. It's pretty easy to deduct some of the other things from that list. I can't stop thinking of the worst.

Sal,
the word 'condom' is the MOST important factor in the exposure you had. Assuming the condom was intact, there was no risk. Oral thrush and sore throat can be attributed to many other conditions than HIV.
Moreover, i note you have been experiecing these symptoms from January. Well, ARS symptoms dont last that long. Infact, HIV shouldnt be your concern. Your 5 week negative test is a good indication. You may choose to test at 12 weeks, however i dont see any reason for you to do so.
Goodluck

The odds are it's not thrush. I have been told by a Dr. I had thrush and freaked out for the longest time. When I asked my dentist he laughed his a$$ off and said My tounge dries out at night from breathing through my mouth. He was dead on. That 5 week result isnt going to change. Unless there is large disk like plaques that peel off it's not thrush
