Please help! A friend of mine went to the doctor's three weeks ago for an HIV test. The results are not available yet. The nurse called the testing center this morning and they said the results could only be released by mail; we should wait. Is it possible that they are delaying the release of the result because it's positive? Thank you.

And Jackie carefully peeks around the corner....is it safe to answer a question she wonders....oh well what the hell might as well.
It's not unusual for results to be delayed for one reason or another. 3 weeks does seem a little long, but wasn't that around the time of the attack. It's possible your friend's sample was delayed reaching the lab. I think most labs run the test in batches not when each test get there so it could have been at the lab for a few days, maybe a week before it was run. Then they send results back by mail and that takes time. I don't think they would delay the release if it was positive, if anything they would speed it along.
