condom failure during menstrual cycle
      #230786 - 09/12/07 11:39 PM

Hello all,

First of all, thanks to everyone for the many great posts on here. Have been lurking for a while.

Here's my story: I am a negative male who was having protected vaginal intercourse with a woman late in her cycle (had to be told to notice) a week ago when I felt the condom break. This was early in the act; we promptly switched the condom and continued merrily along. Now of course, a week later the fact this was a one night stand has me stressing like hell as I wait for the five week mark to get myself tested (there's a job coming up in six weeks that I'll need peace of mind to complete, hence the odd five week date).

I've read endlessly of the odds and come to terms with my chances of infection. What kills me is the madness of knowing I once again put myself at risk (there was a LOT of alcohol involved, which probably led to the human error condom failure). I was just tested a couple months ago and swore I wouldn't put myself in this position again, that henceforth getting tested would happen under a scenario where the outcome was to confirm, not learn my status. So much for that!

This note isn't really a question for advice or answers. I just needed to share with someone.

Much thanks for reading this.

Hey

Though the exposure you state has put you at some degree of risk, the ODDS are in your favour of not having contracted HIV.

The basis of my conclusion result from the fact that, the condom offered some protection before it broke, moreover you were the insertive partner. Additionally you switched to a new condom after noticing the failure.

The exposure does warrant testing, however, the ODDS are in your favour. Remember, alcohol + sex could be a deadly combination, therefore in future, try and keep away from alcohol when you intend to have sex.

Goodluck

Take Care

God Bless you

Stay Well
