I dont know as yet if I am HIV +ve or -ve. I have a white streak along the sides my tongue and it is not painful. It can be scraped away easily and I have removed it. I don’t have any other symptoms. I have a habit of chewing tongue and cheek. My question is/are 1. Can the OHL/hairy tongue be easily scrapped off? 2. And is there any other reason for the white streaks to be present along the sides of my tongue? 3. I would also take like to take this opportunity to ask another unrelated question. One of the symptoms of HIV is FLU like symptoms, is this “FLU” contagious, i.e if I have it can the FLU be passed onto others who don’t have HIV?
Thanks a lot for your time. This forum has been of a great help for me.

OHL can not be scraped off. It has to be treated with medicatons in order to get rid of it.
Flu-like symptoms means that you get pretty much the same symptoms as you would if you had the flu. High fever, body aches, feeling like death warmed over. But ARS is NOT the Flu and is not contagious. It's the body's reaction to trying to fight off HIV, which we all know IS infectious.

The White spots on tongue can be compared with a thrush which occurs among both children and adults equally. Thrush is a yeast infection(aka Candida) looking like whites spots or white patches occurring over the tongue of affected ones. The white spots may occur at any random time. Once they occur, their remaining in existence for seven to days cant be ruled. You should follow...
* Gargle with warm water and salt. * You may also choose to gargle with warm water, salt, turmeric powder & powdered pepper. * Another choice to do the gargles is the concentrate of fenugreek seeds boiled in warm water, lime juice and salt. * You must have lots of liquids, especially fresh vegetable juices & soups. You must avoid solid foods as much as possible. * You should keep in touch with a dentist. That would help you keep away from bad breath as regular cleaning done by the professional would be a great help.
