What are the symptoms of Kaposi's Sarcoma?
      #220556 - 01/02/07 05:58 PM

Is it possible for a person to develop KS less than a year after infection?

Here is my story. I had a risky encounter in November 05. Within 2 weeks I had tingling in my hands and feet (still do). I developed ringing in my ears and soreness under my arms.I developed arthritic symptoms in my knees and ankles.

No fever, rash, diareah (sp?), sore throat, or thrush.

16 weeks later I tested NEG. My doctor assured me that this means that I do not have HIV.

Now a month ago I developed a round blue dot on my forearm. The tingling in my hands is getting worse.

I am going to get another HIV test next Monday.

Is it possible that I seroconverted late?

If I had so many strange symptoms and that illness was a seroconversion illness, wouldn't that mean that my body had produced antibodies and that I would at least test indeterminate and not neg?

Is it possible to develope KS and peripheral neuropathy the first year of infection?

The encounter involved a broken condom with a person who later tested positive.

Please let me know.

Thanks

KS is one of the few OI's that can show up very early during HIV infection. While most OI's don't cause a problem until a CD4 count is below 200, KS can appear at any CD4 count.

Good thing you tested negative at 16 weeks and don't have to concern yourself with HIV or KS. It was a conclusive result.

Now run along.

The first response is correct that KS is often one of the earliest opportunistic infections to show in a person who is HIV positive, but it is by no means something that occurs in a high percentage of those infected. As the poster also said, your HIV test is what you need to rely on, not your self diagnosis of a skin blemish of some kind... Best of luck to you!
