I'm living in hell for the last 5 months ... While on vacation and after a couple of beers, I had a heterosexual contact with an African prostitute ( stupid me !!) It was a real strange contact ... she applied the condom, but before she did that, I am sure she tried to apply blood on my penis on purpose. After 2 weeks ( till now, 5 months past date, I had the following symptoms : * Urticaria * painfull hands * dry skin / hair loss * swollen lymph nodes (on and off) * white tongue * weight loss ( despite I drink and eat more) * diahrea * noises in my stomach * memory loss (extreme) * chills * sore throat * sensitive teeth * nausea/dizzyness ... like I'm constantly drunk * tingling / numbness in hands / feet / neck * burning of feet / hands * very sensitive hands * gingivitis / Periodintitis ( as observed by my dentist) * electro shocks / spasms * redness of skin when under pressure / heat * maculopapular rash * peeling of skin on feet after 3 weeks * folliculitis * rash on palms of hands * FATIGUE
All these symptoms are REAL ( I have them on pics) ... I went to the GUM clinic, neuroloog, Psychiatrist(s), different doctors ... the say it's Psychsomatic, but I'me sure it's not ... I tested negative on the 2/3/4/5/-month mark(EIA) ... I 'm planning to get another test in a month (6) ... I've given up work, sleep 14 hours a day ... desperate !
I'm fearing a HIV-2-infection or a co-infection with HEP C
Anyone recognizes my story?

Dear David, i'm in the same situation as you, (test after 1,2,3,4 and 5 months, all NEGATIVE by Quimioluminiscense (like ELISA)). Here are my symptoms during my first 5 months:
* hair loss * swollen lymph nodes (on and off) * white tongue
http://aycu05.webshots.com/image/9004/2003647505915359545_rs.jpg http://aycu37.webshots.com/image/8916/2003694491470601416_rs.jpg
* diahrea (1 week) * noises in my stomach (it's normal) * memory loss (during first 2 moths after exposure) * chills (a LOT, specially at night) * sore throat (when I swallow, not the same pain of flu) * nausea/dizzyness ... like I'm constantly drunk (first month, like in another reality) * peeling of skin on hands (palm) after 3 weeks * fatigue * night sweats (a LOT in the first 5 months. When I test neg in the 5th month, all the sweats went out)
Now I'm in my 7th month, and as I said, my last test was in the 5th month. Nowadays, my real symptoms are the "pain" when swallowing saliva, and the white tonge (yesterday pics).
I have called the labs and they told me tests are from 4th genereation, and all the forums says there's no risk of seroconversion with tests of this generation after 3 months.
Sorry my english, I´m from Argentina. Happy new year!

Hello Nitram,
My tests were alse 4th generation ... I even did a PCR DNA on HIV-1 after 100 days and a p24 antigen after 65 days ... the thing is that my symptoms don't disappear ... my CD4 was 678 after 65 days and 701 after 150 days ... cd8 : 300 ... apparently my body doesn't make antibodies till now ( or is still fighting a coinfection ... Do you believe that our symptoms can be psychosomatic ?? What was your risk ? Do you still have those symptoms after 7 months ? What are your following steps ?
Thanks and happy new year btw ... I'm from Europe ...
David

David, calm down... as I have posted in the Spanish forum, do NOT follow the symptoms.... all our tests were all negative, so, we don't have HIV, there's no notice about a seroconversion after 3 months with 3rd/4th generation tests (find it yourself).
My risk was with a sex worker (again, sorry my english), and (stupid me, i was drunk), I used the same condom in two different penetrations with the same girl (but i didn't came out in none of them).
I think next month I'll make a test, just for check, but not as anxious as in the previous tests, It's a five months test man... please, search in Internet a person who have tested positive after 3 months with last generations tests.
Again, calm down... and enjoy 2007!!

David, I have been through the same type of situation. Many of the symptoms you have had I had also and then some. I still have a few symptoms of white tongue, dry skin, small reactive lymph nodes in neck, redness in one eye and fullness in ears. I have tested 7 times by Elisa and 5 times by DNA & RNA PCR out to 14 months and Neg. All this testing should have found something if something was there. The same can be said for your testing as well. Happy New Year!!

Thanks for your answers ...
The symptoms that scare me most are my CD4-count(700), urticaria, receding gums, maculopapular rash, peeling of feet, extreme fatigue, burning of hands/feet ... I just can't believe all of this is just psychosomatic ... I got these symptoms all of the sudden after a very dangerous contact ... And I used to be such a healthy boy ... but yes, let's hope for the best ...

David, Same symptoms here and tested out to 11 months with 9 Hiv 1 tests 6Hiv 2 tests, 2 RNA and 2 DNA tests all negative at this point. Like you the prolong symptoms concerns me too, but I'm looking for other causes as well. Many other viral symptoms as well as fungal or Bacterial infections could cause the same problems. Good luck.

I wrote you a long post, but then I decided that for my New Year's I won't waste time on WWs any more. A CD4 of 700 is a NORMAL count....something many people actually infected don't have the luxary of seeing.
You don't have HIV, maybe you have Cancer. Whatever you have it's up to you and your doctor to figure out,

David, Why worry over the CD4 count. Your count has remained stable and in the normal 450-1500 range. That is NOT typical for early HIV infection especially when antibodies are not present as indicated bt your Neg. Elisas. Early infection without immune response leads to a very high viral load easily detected by PCR and a low and unstable CD4 count. Also the CD8 count will go very high. (Higher than the CD4 count). Your CD8 is low where it should be and your CD4 is VERY normal and stable. This combined with no antibodies or viral load detected could only mean one thing. You don't have HIV!! Take Care.

Worried well ? I don't think so ... when you have quitted your work ( 4 months), feel sick ALL the time, have 20 real symptoms ... I don't think I am a WW ... I have already been to an infection specialist ... they checked EVERYTHING ( including MS, CMV, ... ) ... I constantly walk into a large wall of misconception. How can you explain someone your hands are numb, you live like you're drunk, extremely tired, rashes, ... It really is frustrating

Yes you are a WW. It's a term given to people that think they are infected with HIV when they are NOT. They tend to ignore facts as you did when it was pointed out your CD4's are in the normal range. Or the fact you have tested negative and the result is conclusive.
Of course your health issues are frustrating, but it's not caused by HIV. From your first post, it's pretty clear that you have had a battery of tests and your doctor(s) have told you that there isn't a physical cause for your illness.
You said in your first post "the say it's Psychsomatic, but I'me sure it's not ... "
That's a bit like a patient with a Persecution Complex. They are so sure they are right about the world being out to get them that you can't get the medicine that would help their mental conidition down their throats.
Sometimes you have to realize that the people around you can see a situation clearer. The forest and the trees type of thing. Your doctors have given you a cause for your illness. It's up to you to do something about it.
Or would you rather continue along as you have been?
Your choice.

Hello,
thx for your response ... isn't it so that just before the production of antibodies your CD8-cells will augment ? But because I still have so much symptoms, I think my immune system doesn't react at all ... I think it's overwhelmed by a coinfection or is just weak and doesn't seem to know how to react to a virus ...

Hello Anonymous,
Of course I realize I can't continue along as I have been doing, but I tried a lot to get rid of these "psychosomatic" :-/ symptoms.
I even take anti-depressiva ( Serlain), Risperdal ... in case it should be in my head ... I'm already taken these medicines for 2 months !!
And YES, I want to accept my results ... when I came back from my last doctor visit, I thought : OK, David, there's nothing wrong with you, live your life ... And then, during the night, you wake up : tired, maculopapular rash, you feel your receding gums, numb hands, dry lips, burning hands, sleeping hands/feet etc etc etc ...
Do you understand that this really is frustrating ? I want to get back to work, but it just isn't possible for the moment ... I guess I just have to wait for the 6-month - mark ( that's what the infection specialist suggested) and hope that my symptoms will disappear ...
