Do condoms protect against HIV?
      #21946 - 09/05/01 10:38 PM

Hi, are condoms extremly effective against HIV? I'm just wondering if anyone konws anyone, or contracted HIV while performing safe sex? I'm sure the virus has to have been transmitted whle condoms were used in the past a few times or so by some method. Is this a risk that you should take? I'm just wondering if there are any documented cases of people contracting HIV while using a condom?

Well there have been gay men in some studies who tested positive for HIV despite claiming that they used condoms. These cases were probably due to condom breakage or were transmitted other ways. Its very unlikely to get HIV when using a condom though, but it can happen if the condom breaks or tears. again unlikely though.
