Past history of other STDs clearly correlates with HIV incidence. In a study of men who had other STDs and who used sex workers, every man who seroconverted had a genital ulcer of some kind related to the STD. The authors concluded that men with other STDs have a very high risk of acquiring HIV from prostitutes

Men with ulcerative lesions not only have a greater chance of contracting HIV from prostitutes, they also have that same risk from contracting HIV from Soccer Moms.
I have no idea what this study was, when done, by whom, or if it's was sanctioned. However since studies give the parameters of all the variables in the beginning. If it didn't say condoms were used, then they probaby weren't a factor.

H have herpes for 20 years, seldom do I get an visible open sore but often I do get a little rash would that be considered different or same for increasing odds of infection with hiv?

Only if the prostitute has hiv which other studies indicate that less (not more) are uninfected.
