Hepatitis B and C
      #21731 - 08/31/01 06:35 PM

Searching for some info here I became aware about the possibility of being infected with other things apart from HIV. I have some questions that are not well answered here or in another sites.

What are the possibilities of being infected with Hepatitis B from a relation with a woman via vaginal without protection? Many sites claim that the Hep B virus is transmitted thru sexual contact but they dont tell exactly what is the way, I mean the pages I have seen (here by example) says that Hep B cannot be transmitted thru a kiss because there must be blood (similar to the HIV transmission), so I ask, the blood needs to be present too in the vagina of the woman? and how it enters into the man body? This is regarding Hep B.

What about Hep C? I have read that it is not transmitted via sexual intercourse.

Please give me all the info you have. My hipocondria is active again.

Your Friend,

Okay, I'm looking at Stephen Goldstone's book INS AND OUTS OF GAY SEX and it lists the transmission methods of Hepatitis A, B, and C.

Hepatitis A has a fecal-oral transmission route. This could be from improper washing of hands before preparation of food, also shellfish from contaminated water. (I got Hepatitis A from having sexual relations with a man. We did all the safer sex things but, I guess in the end, I didn't wash my hands good enough).

Hepatitis B/C is passed from infected semen, blood, or other bodily fluids. Well, that doesn't really say much huh? I know common literature has said that HCV can and usually gets passed thru contaminated blood or IV drug users. Concerning the B strain, though: there's a vaccine for it so you should definitely get it! Man I felt very very sick when I contracted the HAV A type, I vowed never to go through another Hepatitis again. So get the vaccine for B, and there's a vaccine for A too, get it get it.
