aye carumba... i've been so scared for the past few weeks, I can barely function... just looking for a little advice... i know no one here can diagnose me for sure, only an hiv test 6 or 12 weeks out can do that...
i was the bottom (i'm a guy) partner in anal sex... the condom broke at some point, but my top partner didn't notice right away... sex continued for a while before he stopped and replaced the condom... i do not know his hiv status for sure...
i didn't think anything of it until 6 days later, i noticed that the lymph nodes under my armpits became VERY swollen... soon followed by the lymph nodes in my groin... NO FEVER, NO RASH, very mild sore throat... i didn't think anything of it till i had this dream that i was hiv poz, and then all hell broke loose... have not gotten a good night's sleep since then... panic attacks, crying fits... arrrggggg
i went to the doctor 2 weeks after the incident, one week after symptoms started... tested for hiv (too early, but a baseline), ghonorea, chlamydia, syphillis... all came back negative doctor ordered a CBC (complete blood count) that showed slightly ELEVATED white blood cells... which she interpreted as my body fighting off an infection.
i know i have to wait for an hiv test, but just wanted some input... i've read that acute hiv infection almost always has a high fever, often a rash over the trunk of the body, and not always, but often has a DROP in white blood cells... is this a good sign for me? any input from people who know about acute hiv??
i'm literally going crazy with fear

aaaaack, your story sounds so similar to mine!! I seem to be able to maintain composure for a couple of hours and then i'm on the net again, or crying, or hyperventilating. I had 2 panick attacks last week, which i've never had before (hyperventilating until the point of nearly passing out). I'm usually not such a freak. Anyways, if it helps AT ALL i'm in the same boat - get my 4 week test results back next week, which won't be definitive but at least it's something to go on. What an awful experience.

Well I'm sure you know you have put yourself at risk, that's the bad news. The good news is this. 1-- HIV is an exstreamly weak virus and even with unprotected anal sex the odds are greatly in your favor. 2-- Symptoms do not equal disease however, you did not have a fever which is almost always present in people who do present with symptoms. 3-- Your partner did not ejaculate in you that is the most important. All you were exposed to was possible pre-cum. 4-- You don't even know if he was POZ so assume he wasn't and you will be fine. it will make the six weeks go by faster. All you can do is test at 6 weeks and hope for the best.
Good luck,keep us posted. D.J.
