Elisa testing - 3rd generation
      #213954 - 11/06/06 10:21 PM

Does it test for HIV 1 and HIV 2? If you yourself, hadn't had an exposure to someone out side of USA but your partner may have, would that put you at risk for HIV 2?

Not all tests are a combination for 1 and 2. I know one person had hers done at her doctor's and it said on your result report that the test looked for both. But another friend had his done by the 20 minute test at the clinic and it didn't specify, so I would assume that was just for 1.

The antibodies being so similar does mean that even on a test designed for 1, 2 will be picked up over 80% of the time.

Only if your partner happened to be HIV+ with 2.
