Hi everyone, Can anyone help me figure out what to do.... I had about 5 unprotected vaginal intercourse exposures a year ago. Since then I have had the following issues which may be related or may not be to the exposure: 1-2 weeks later poison ivy/oak type rash on legs. Went away with cream from doctor. 2 weeks after that rash on face that persisted until 3 months of antibiotics swollen glands under jaw appeared about a month after exposure. Still swollen 11 months later. blood tests done at 3 months from exposure. Elevated liver enzymes. Doctor said it was a virus. HIV indeterminate General malaise for next 3 months 6 month HIV test - non reactive 9 months after exposure glands below ear begin to swell, still swelling now. Glands below jaw still swollen 10 months after exposure - non reactive HIV test Throughout the last 11 months I have had to constantly clear my throat from phlegm buildup. I have sniffles that are always there. Other than this I am in general good health. My liver enzymes are slightly elevated, but within normal boundaries. I drink several cans of beer a night and smoke. I am extremely stressed about this and have been all year. I have read about the symptoms and feel that I must be one of the .001% that seroconvert after 9 months. Any ideas? Thanks, Conncerned

I think you are a very strong person and that there is something else that might be affecting you (stress?).
The test after 6 months is 99.999% reliable. I think you should relax and have another beer for us.
If you think you need to, get another test just for more piece of mind.
Good luck.

Thanks Friend for your response. I believe that I am incredibly stressed and I know that can cause manifestations of any number of symptoms, I am not sure that it can cause swollen glands though.... It takes me so long to get the nerve to get tested each time I am running out of mental reserves :) I don't think I can cope with another wait... although... what could be worse than the mental anguish I am putting myself through right now eh? Thanks again, I really appreciated you taking the time to respond to my post.

I can relate to your reluctance to test...when my time comes due, I hope I can go thru with it...I don't know though.

I have consistently found that once you are ready it alleviates some stress. I hope you find the nerve to take the test. I would be stress free now if I didn't have these damn swollen glands and other symptoms still hanging on.... Go for it and best of luck.

Ok, by posting on this forum I decided to get my nerves into some kind of order. I go for my final test tomorrow morning. Please wish me luck, whether you post it or not. I am terrified :)

You're not infected. I'm also someone who's badly affected by stress and anxiety, and have had many symptoms similar to yours. Being an EX-worried well, all of my symptoms have faded with time once I let go of the stress and anxiety and BELIEVED the results of my tests. These tests are very, VERY good (given the appropriate window period) and with your testing history, you are not infected.Pour the beer down the drain, throw out the smokes, leave your HIV hysteria behind and you'll be amazed how much better you feel ...
