Back in the land of limbo at 7months
      #212107 - 10/19/06 09:57 AM

Dear All,

It is with anxiety and dissapointment that I find myself back on the "Am I infected" forum.

I lots happened to me in 7+ months. Ive gone from extreme anxiety about contracting HIV, to absolute relief to testing negative at about 7 weeks, and being told by my GUM clinician I was all clear.....(no need for 12 weeker he told me!)all the way back to extreme anxiety and feeling like Im back where I started.

The fact is I have been unwell in varying degrees on and off ever since the risky exposure that led to me getting the clap.
Even though many symptoms have persisted with me after I got the 7 week neg result, I tried to live in the manner to which my GU Doc told me too:- "Your HIV Neg...you are well go and enjoy your life" where his exact words.

I went home contined to get mild fevers, mild neuropathy and a host of other stuff, got the all clear for host of other common disease from my GP after blood tests. It got me down but thought...hey if i have an infection or something its most likely harmless and will pass in time.

Then in the last two weeks I have come down with neuropathy that is severe enought to make it painful for me to type this, I got a profound nausea that made feel I was at deaths door, and the worst night fevers Ive ever had. One day I even lost all my co-ordination and had "stroke face" I could feel the nerve in my face and around my teeth becoming sensitised, it was one fo the worst days of my life.

Now Im about to go for a test at 7 months, since I never had the 12 weeks And Im feel very confused, if the news is good, I will have no explanation for this illness, although my GP has assured me after a second round of tests he will try and get me in front of infectious disease specialist.

I just wish there was not so much confusion about HIV and its testing requirements, even the professionals are squabbling over it, what hope is there for the rest of us?

For reassurance can anyone tell me how unusual it would be to have Neuropathy as a symptom persistiant from the first few weeks of infection? If someone can say its unheard of that would help me immensely to face up to my test next week.

Neuropathy (PN) as seen in Advance HIV disease or from the medication side effects starts in the feet. It becomes so painful that sufferers are unable to walk.

You really think you have no other causes of Neuropathy? How about these, two which you doctor should closely look at from some of your 'symptoms' - Bell's palsy and Diabetes

Alcoholism
Amyloidosis (metabolic disorder)
Autoimmune disorders (e.g., Guillain-Barr syndrome)
Bell's palsy
Cancer
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Chronic kidney failure
Connective tissue disease (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, sarcoidosis)
Diabetes mellitus
Infectious disease (e.g., Lyme disease, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, leprosy)
Liver failure
Medications
Radiculopathy
Vitamin deficiencies (e.g., pernicious anemia)

I feel for your situation because I have had a somewhat similar situation, not in terms of the types of symptoms but in the fact that I am completely not the same since my possibly risky encounter in February of '06. I tested negative at 6 months, but the constant feeling horrible feeling will not fade. Now it is a persistent lung infection for the last 3 weeks that seems like pneumonia based on the symptoms but I have not seen the doctor yet for this issue (I had gone to the doctor about 5 times over the last 8 months so I am waiting until my next scheduled appointment instead of running to hte doctor so much). I also had a 3 week ear infection before that and I had never had an ear infection in my life. Maybe I did not catch HIV, but whatever happened to me has caused me to not be able to fight off infections.

Best of luck to you!

Ronnie

An intersting list, and clearly put together by someone who understands the groupings of the diseases in question, if you was physician, I might ask you to help me get to the root of my problems for a fee.

The fact remains all my problems started at a time I had a risky exposure and caught something else. Sure we can put it down to coincidence, but it seems im not the only one struggling to get a diagnoses of any kind in very similar circumstances....Ronnie thanks for your sympathy, and also OG on the living well forum I know is struggling in similar fashion. here in the UK our NHS has a weakness when it comes to diagnoses...they have broken up the various diseases and created different departments for the groupings. Our GP can only refer us to one department at a time, and each referral can take months to get in front of the specialist in the field, so in theory you coud be severely disabled or even dead by the time you found out what was wrong with you here in the UK. 15 yrs of paying national insurance for what! Im considering going private, but Im having one more bash at HIV and Syphillis before I go and pay a private hospital maybe £1000's of pounds to diagnose me...if theres anyone on here is part of NHS, can you tell me where to send them the bill?

No.the mods didnt kick him off. They don't kick off people from there. Actualy, me and Ruf were discussing possibilities of infection disease in that forum and they wanted to keep it stictly to hiv related stuff which i guess Ruff didn't appericiate...
Anyways, i hope he sees this message as i would like to chat with him..O

Well if you are on a board that has been set up for HIV as the topic, then you should stick to HIV as the topic. Like this one. Makes sense doesn't it?
