Real testing data from CLIA...
      #21146 - 08/20/01 07:27 PM

Okay...if you want REAL numbers from the folks who are in charge of "evaluating" laboratory tests for
the US, this is the site...when people ask, quote and wonder what the real number are...here you go. If
you call Specialized Testing, they LOVE to tell you how the PCR DNA test doesn't have to be FDA
approved because it's approved through CLIA...well they're right and here are all the testing facts and
numbers...although they don't have DNA on here (I'll find it though!!!) but they do have RNA along
with ELISA etc...This is the REAL DEAL as they conduct the study through ALL the major LABS
and hospitals in the country, meaning they take send random panels (positive and negative) to be tested
and then evaluate the findings. The testing goes back YEARS.

Read till you can't read no more...;) Enjoy...

So what you're saying, Shane, is that DNA and RNA testing IS conclusive and reliable?

reliable???...yes...conclusive???...well that depends on what an individual thinks or wants to think
"conclusive" is. Is 98.7% conclusive for you?...it might be and who's to say it isn't...for me 98.7 is not
"conclusive", but then again I'm a worrier...and my exposure wasn't a "maybe"...therfore for me
99.99% is conclusive not 98.7...

I'm not saying it is or it isn't, what I'm saying is that I have a problem with Specialized Testing telling
folks that they don't need any further testing and that these tests are 99.9% accurate...really??? where
do they get there info??? Bottom line is they are going to tell that to some unfortunate person who is the
1 out of 96 and they are going to go home and celebrate with their wife and pass on this very
dangerous disease....that's my point....

PCR DNA RNA is great...if it's non detected you should celebrate...but you should also be aware that
there is another test you need to take to make sure at 6 months...that IS THE ONLY WAY FOR IT
TO BE CONCLUSIVE!!!

Peace
Shane

So where do you get the 98.7 figure?

Go with a 3 month 3rd Generation Elisa test.

If you go to the link I gave and read the written conclusions for 2000, it stated that the overall test was 98.7...maybe it was 97.8 I forget and I'm tired right now...I know I'm tired when I write "their" as "there"...how embarrassing...Anyway check it out for yourself...

Peace
Shane

I don't know Shane ..... your 6 month Elisa rule is a bit outdated. A 3 month test is said to be conclusive with the current generation of tests. This test is one of THE best used in medicine. As far as the PCR testing ..... it's just a matter of time before these tests get the respect they deserve (FDA approval for diagnosis). A PCR test is often quite reliable within days after exposure.
