Hi guys,
I have a question about my tests - in fear of HIV infection because of a bad incident and symptoms not long after, I went to have my blood tested for HIV as well as other infections - the PCR and antibody test both turned out Negative, but other type of viruses were found, which my doctor said that they were nothing serious and would go away by themselves.
I don't quite understand the terminology of the test results, but on one page, there are listing like the following:
Abnormal .....................Reference Range CD3+/CD4+ (Helper) 27 L ................57-85 CD3+/CD4+ (Helper) 473 L................490-1740
MPV 7.4 L ..............................7.5-11.5 ..............
The above number 473 was circled.
I read so much information which states that low CD4 count is related to HIV/AIDS! And the normal CD4 count should be from 800-1200, and mine is under 500, which means there is already damage done to my immune system?!
My question was: If medical document all relate low CD4 cell counts to HIV/AIDS, what could my low count mean? Other than HIV infection, do all viruse infection affect the CD4 cells count? In other words - does a person's CD4 cells count react to any kind of virus infection? If so, is my test result listed above normal for my situation? And what is MPV?
I think that I should also list the kind of viruses found in my blood tests:
Abnormal Normal EBV CAPSID AB (IGG) 1.97 H Interpretation Positive
CMV AB (IGG) 1.21 H Interpretation Positive
I know that EBV is what causes the "Chronicle Fatigue Sydrome"(but some experts say EBV is NOT the cause of CFS!)Also, some of them say that HIV infection could be one of the causes of CFS! Is that true? If so, it seems that in my case, HIV virus should not be the cause-since I tested Negative for it, plus that other viruses have been found? (All the statements seem to be contradicting each other-it's so confusing!) And what is CMV? I asked my doc, and he said it's similar to EBV.
I hope you wouldn't blame me for not trusting the doctor (I think that I had my reasons) and that you could give me some help with your answers.
Thank you so much!

Sounds to me that you should get another DR.'s opinion on something this technical.
Good Luck,
