Odds of Infection
      #20828 - 08/14/01 09:32 PM

What are the odds/chances of being infected with HIV from a one-time oral sex encounter? I am a male who received oral sex from another male whose status I did not know. That is my ONLY risk. It was something that I was curious about, but after it was over, I was scared and will NEVER EVER do something like that again. I would appreciate all of your responses.

I read that there has never been a reported case of someone being infected by recieving oral sex, so if you do become infected, you will be the first.

the risk is very low and I would doubt that you get HIV from it BUT what about other STDs ? they are easy to get if you ever do something like that again have some dial anti bacteria soap and wash within a few minutes after the encounter I read this will help wipe out bacteria and save you from maybe getting something.

Dear Anonymous:

The risk of contracting HIV from receiving oral sex from a male is the SAME as the risk associated with contracting the virus from receiving oral sex from a female---sex, nor sexual orientation plays any role in infection. From the sounds of your post you are suffering guilt from society's deemed inappropriateness for homosexuality. Yet, since you have a legitimate fear I will tell you to move on, the risk is virtually at or near 0% Consider counseling for your emotional distress. Good Luck

Dr. Mr. Odds of Infection,

Oral sex transmission is extremely low. Look, this report just came out, check ou this link:

http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20010814/hl/hiv_oral_1.html

As for personal experience, I do man to man oral sex all the time, play safely (anal sex with condoms), and consistently test negative. As a gay male, let me say this: don't let the man-to-man aspect of the oral sex intimidate you to never trying it again. Mansex can be fun, just be responsible.
