How soon can I expect first symptomms?
      #207064 - 09/13/06 04:38 PM

I got a sharps injury at work 5 days ago, the source said that he is healthy but he was born in Ghana (higher risk). He consented to be tested for HIV, Hep B+C and awaiting the results. I've been very worried since that day and now everyday I think I find new symptoms of HIV infection. I don't know if the symptoms are just made up from all the stress or can you actually get any symptoms 3 days after getting infected?

Well I've been infected for many years and I'm still waiting for my first symptoms.

You wouldn't show symptoms within 3 days. ARS, if it occurs, typically will happen between 2-4 weeks. Hopefully you will have his results back before that time and you wont' start imagining all sorts of things going wacky with your body.

you certainly can feel symptoms brought on by the stress alone, but it would have nothing to do with exposure after just a few days - no way. if you're troubling yourself so deeply and constantly your mind will bring the symptoms on. try your best to believe that - or talk to your doctor and he/she will reassure you
