Could I test positive after all this testing?
      #205993 - 09/03/06 10:27 PM

I recently tested negative at 6 months by the regular Elisa test. I was also negative at 3 months and 19 weeks. I also had a DNA PCR test at 8 weeks post exposure which was also negative.

I'm also having symptoms, tingling sensations in my legs and one slightly swollen lymph node in my neck for the past 5 months.

Could I have HIV after all of these negative results? Has anyone on here ever known of someone to test negative at six months and then positive later if they didn't have any HIV risks in the interim? Should I still be worried?

No. You are neg. Great for you. As far as your symptoms go, you need to go to a dr and have them checked, there are not HIV or HIV related.

Hi,

I'm in the same boat as you. I had a potential exposure (very risky encounter) and have tested a lot since, all negative out to a 6 month Elisa but I also still have symptoms of something. I had two negative pcr NAs at 12 and 19 weeks too. My symptoms are not the same as yours though. I have swollen underarms and groin but that is it. I'm now at 7 months post the incident. My doctor says no more HIV tests but I can't shake this :(

Best of luck to you.

No, almost everyone will be positive by 8 weeks post exposure if they're infected. 13 weeks is considered conclusively. With your 6 month test, you're more than conclusively negative. Go to your doc to have the symptoms checked out.

Same boat as you tested out to 6 months and negative. Dr also told me that its very unlikey to be HIV. Also suggested that I might want to test again later due to symptoms. I have never heard of anyone taking longer than 6 months based on the inputs of this site. Be safe.
