No ARS symptoms = lower chance of HIV?
      #205132 - 08/27/06 10:34 PM

I'd had a risky experience earlier this month. ARS, as I understand it, appears in the majority of cases (50-70%) of HIV infection within three to six weeks of infection.

I haven't noticed any flu-like symptoms. If I don't, does that mean that my chances of having contracted HIV are lowered?

Symptoms or lack of symptoms cannot be used to diagnose HIV, you will have to wait 13 weeks and get a test to do that.

but i would agree with your assement, most people do experience some sort of ARS symptom when they are infected, some people after many years can recall the time they got sick, but back then they thought nothing of it...

so an answer to your question is, after a risky exposure, showing no ars symptoms 3-6 weeks past exposure is better then showing ars symptoms. but it doesnt mean your not infected..

you will have to test for that in a few weeks.

Symptoms, or lack of symptoms is not an indicator of HIV infection. 25% of the people infected today, don't even know they are infected. They may have had symptoms they thought were something else, or they may have had no symptoms.

Just get tested.

sickness varies from nothing to extreme that requires doctor or hospital stay.. dont play the guessing game, im glad your not havin any symptoms but you need to test 13 weeks and take it from there.
