thorough blood test
      #204699 - 08/24/06 04:28 AM

I went to the doctor a few months ago with a bladder infection. He prescribed me some antibiotics, but upon my persistence and anxiety, he agreed to do a complete and thorough blood test. I was called back a few weeks later saying that my levels of bilirubin (from liver) were a little high, but nothing to worry about (possible Gilbert's syndrome?) My question is, if he did do a 'thorough' blood test, do you think he would have found something indicative of HIV antibodies or do they leave that completely alone unless you specifically request an HIV test? Again, he did say it was 'thorough'. Thank you for any feedback.

Are you sure hypocondria isn't your problem? You translate bilirubin a little high and nothing to worry about, as possible Gilbert's syndrome?

Well never mind. If you want to know your HIV status you have to have an ELISA. Normal blood work will tell you nothing.

You have to ask specifically to be tested for HIV. "Thorough" does not mean HIV.
