I am very freaked out I was out with a couple of girlfriends of mine and we went to a bar then to my back to my friends house where we continued drinking. Long story short I had stupid drunk unprotected sex with someone of unknown hiv status. I came down with sore throat and fever abour 10 days after that exposure and it went away in like 3 days. I went for STD and hiv anitbody test (ELISA) 28 days after exposure and it was all negative. I am going for my next test soon which will be 70 days post exposure will this test be accurate? I am so scared that I am not able to sleep and I am eating everything in sight. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

ARS doesnt just come on as a sore throat, or a single symptom. Get Tested at 3 months post exposure for a conclusive result. I wouldnt worry about it though, why waste all the time and effort worrying about a negative result?....instead, i suggest you educate yourself on safe sex practices, not only proper condom use, but the affects alcohol has on your decision making abilities*, then when you do get the negative results back...you will know how to properly protect your status*

Well I'm sure glad you didn't go through the all symptoms I have been through and to a small degree still going through for the past 11 months. I only wish that was all I went through. From all the info. I have researched on the Body and many many other very informative sites, there is no way ARS would be that mild. There is much more to it than that, besides it really is a bit too early for ARS to have already happened.

I agree with the other posters - ARS usually happens 2-3 weeks after exposure. Symptoms are generally flu-like - fever, anorexia (no appetite), extreme fatigue, muscle aches, vomiting, etc. Lab results usually show decreased WBC, elevated liver functions. ARS usually lasts around 2 weeks. Mine was a textbook case - started 21 days after exposure, symptoms as mentioned.
Another test at 3 months would be conclusive. So, you were lucky this time - now carry some condoms with you for the next time!
