Oops...I need your help brother
      #20200 - 08/02/01 03:58 AM

Well judging, from the posts and responses I have read in this forum, it seems like you are the man to ask about this. Now, 6 weeks ago i embarked on a journey to stupidity, yes I was with a sex worker, and here is the story. She started in on some oral, then we started to have sex, but it was only for like....literally 4 pumps.....both with protection, then I stopped because my big head chimed in for an update of what was going on....so she finished me orally with the condom......now I am 99% the condom did not break, and i know if nothing else my urethra was not exposed, and I had no cuts.....AND YET I STILL AM CONVINCED THAT I HAVE THIS DAMN HIV......It is all guilt....but really oops my man.....what are the chances that I was infected from this encounter....be real.....do i have something to worry about, and if anyone else has a response also I would love it....thaks so much everyone

In my opinion
your chance of getting HIV from what you did is very small I think you have guilt and remorse about sex now thats all it is.
If you were to go by what some studys show
you would have to have sex 500 times with a HIV infected woman before you got the Hiv.
since you used a condom you had safe sex and that is what we are taught now to avoid HIV take a test and then never put yourself at risk having sex with a sex worker it maybe good business for her but not for you or any other 'John' .
Once again you had safe sex a condom was used.

Well guess what, many of us are in the same boat actually. In my case, my risk was low and the condom did not break, yet for about 4 weeks I went around like a zombie, convinced that I was infected. I won't give a sigh of relief until my 8 week result is negative. I think it is guilt and fear that causes us to feel this way. I just can't help feeling anxious nad afraid even if the odds are in my favour. Many of us, including Oops are feeling this way. Hang in there buddy.

The short answer, and the statistical answer, is "No. You don't have anything to worry about."

This HIV thing is pretty insidious, though. Even though you KNOW you have close to zero risk, the fact that it's gotten hold of your head means you're going to have to test to set your mind at ease.

Take me, for example: Protected sex, but having had the doubt bug planted by a medical professional I wasn't able to let it go. Elisa at 4 weeks, negative; PCR DNA at 5 weeks, negative; some semantic equivocation by a published doctor - "Huh?." Sigh...... Follow that up with a 1 day case of the raging runs in week 7, for no apparent reason whatsoever, and here I am again.

Is it guilt? Yeah, you can probably bank on that. What are the chances that you were infected during that encounter? Probably so close to zero that zero is the only real measure for it. Will that put your mind at ease? If not, join the club: I'd go ahead and test now for a reality check. That test will be negative. Whether or not you feel compelled to test again will depend on your reaction to the first one, but I promise: if you get tested you will begin to feel much better.

Oops .... I'm curious. Did you ever seek the advice of another medical professional (say, and infectuous disease specialist) to remove the "bug" planted by the first doctor? Any I.D. doctor worth his salt would have told you that you have absolutley nothing to be concerned about regarding HIV.

Bad luck on all counts:
* Counselors at the clinic said don't worry, be happy.
* Doctor at the clinic recommended testing. Tailspin #1.
* 2nd Doctor, a private one, would only go so far as "You're probably ok." Tailspin #2.
* CDC counselors were pretty equivocal, conflicting answers. Tailspin #2.5

Don't know how to find an infectious disease doctor in my locality.... so I guess the short answer to your question is No.
