Hi guys. I haven't really been afraid, until now. Very nervous - yes, afraid - no. I had a medium-high risk exposure 29 days ago. I have never gotten into the symptom thing, because overall, I have felt absolutely great. I don't have the all consuming stress. I just have brief, intense moments. I usually deal and move on. Today was a no-stress day. I actually thought how silly I was to have taken a PCR yesterday when everything is fine.
Then, on the way home today, I was overwhelmed with dizziness and passed out on the train. I woke up covered in sweat and with about 50 people staring at me and a doctor (who thank God was on the train) taking my pulse. It took me a good 10 minutes before I was able to stand again. Now, I feel fine. No fever, no more sweats. Just a little weak and really worried.
I'm not really into the self-diagnosis, but I really would like your input because this is the most frightened I've been. I wasn't hot, had drank plenty of water, had eaten, actually slept in today, and wasn't stressed. So, I don't understand this. I am right about at the point where I would be ARS'ing if I was going to. I haven't seen 'passing out hard' in the symptoms logs. Thoughts?

That sounds like a panic attack to me. I have panic disorder and sometimes a panic attack can just hit you out of the blue. And ppl have been known to faint as a result of one. Intense fear can do that. I've fainted before during a panic episode. It is very scary indeed. This is just my opinion, I'm not a doctor, but that's what it sounds like to me. You may just be overwhelmed right now, and the stress just brought one on. I hope this helps you to relax. I really don't think it's related to ARS.

I think Candy hit that one right on the nose. I've had dizzy spells, a complete inability to think straight, and have popped into a sweat for no reason at all. Couple of times I even thought I was stressing into a heart attack, but it turned out to be plain old anxiety. Fainting is NOT indicative of anything related to HIV, but it does mean you need to figure out some way to relax a little bit.
You've got results coming back from a PCR before too long - when is that?

Thanks all. It just was really freaky, and I really didn't feel stressed, so I was suprised. I call today for an estimate as to when to expect my results.

Dear SAC:
Your symptoms you describe on the train would lead me to believe you had a lapse in blood pressure. This may be caused by a sudden drop or rise in blood pressure and the brain does not receive the adequate supply necessary due to this change (e.g. after completing extreme exercise the person may feel dizzy and "pass-out" due to the body trying to regulate the heart and blood pressure in accordance). In severe cases this may be caused from blockage in the arteries, and eventually lead to stroke (which I would NOT indicate is your situation---do you smoke or drink heavily? Are you obeise?) A sudden change in blood pressure also may occur by simply standing quickly, and when mixed with environmental conditions it may be more severe. I would recommend you talk with your physician about this occurence if it persists.
This specific situation would not lead me to test for HIV...I think you can feel confident the "black-out" you experienced was related to blood pressure and not HIV. Although you do not indicate your exact exposure so it is difficult for me to elaborate on your exact risk. Talk with your doctor if the situation you experienced persists. Good Luck
